any one else here go on Craigslist and see all of the rabbits being rehomed at any given time. all just reaching sexual maturity for the most part and all in tiny little cages with cedar bedding. anyone else get really upset at this and want to just take them all and buy about 30 acres and place a huge barn for when the weather is poor amd have a bunny proof fence around the whole thing, and get them all spayed and neutered and just love there in rabbitopia hahaha but really it is so sad how mistreated rabbits are and how uneducated people are, it makes me want to scream and make it illegal to sell them at petshops. it just annoys me to no end. which is why I got fired from working at petco, because I talked A LOT of people out of buying animals while I was there. all because I educated them on the proper care that each animal should receive and didn’t sugar coat what it’s like sharing your home with them. I tell people all the time of you see an animal you like or think you want, don’t buy it. go home, research that animal for a minimum of 2 months, visit breeders and rescues and see what it is like to be around that kind of animal amd what it takes to really care for them, then if you still want it, go get ALL materials you need for it, then you can get it.

That’s great advice! I wish all employees at petshops would do the same. I’ll admit, I did minimal research before I adopted Luna, though I did already know that buns could be expensive! Luna was a short notice adoption as she was originally my sister’s bun – I had no idea that I would end up adopting her until my sister told me she was looking to rehome her . Well I had already fell in love with that furry face way before then, so I took her home with me and scrambled for bunny info online for hours and came across this site .

That’s so weird that you were fired because you were educating people about animals they were interested in. I recently quit from my PetSmart job that I had for three years and we were encouraged to explain proper care for the animals we sold and animals we didn’t. I made sure anyone who just bought a rabbit/were interested in obtaining a rabbit knew good and well the joys and struggles of owning one. No pet is “cheap” and “low maintenance”.
