I took my gorgeous little bun Madame Snuggles to the pet shop because I was told there was a rabbit expert, and she said Madame was a mini lop and that her ears would eventually flop. When I bought her however, they said she was a Netherland dwarf. I also took her to the vet and being a cat and dog vet primarily, he had no idea. I’m worried she might be a checkered giant. Does anyone have any advice? Any link to a page which gives this sort of advice?

How old do you think your rabbit is? Do you know her weight? Is she still growing?
I think it would be unusual to get a checkered giant through a pet shop. It the bunny black and white? Has spots on the body, black over the nose or both? That sort of pattern on the coat is common in many breeds.

Post some pictures and we can try to help

Many rabbits in pet stores often aren’t pure bred, although commonly they may be part mini lop and sometimes netherland dwarf. I agree that it would be highly unusual to get a checkered giant in a pet store, I’m fairly sure they’re a relatively rare or at least uncommon breed. As mentioned, broken black is a very common colour in rabbits.

FYI, please find a rabbit vet for the future. It’s vital.
