Hello, today if was playing with Coco and I noticed like small dander looking things on him. They did not move but there were a decent amount of them. I further checked him and I’m pretty sure I saw a small grain of sand looking thing moving in the deep part of his fur, by the ears. I checked his ears and his years are not yellow, no earwax, they’re grayish white like they always are. So, how can I treat these mites?! I can’t afford to take him to the vet so could I treat him without a veterinarian?? I also don’t want him to go through the stress of driving him anywhere. Please help ASAP I’m really worried about my little bun bun.

I literally just got my buns treated for mites over the weekend. Here in the US they won’t sell you Revolution over the counter, as I sadly experienced. Depending on your vet they may want you to bring your bun in just to do a slide and see what type of mites they are, and just check him over in general. Some vets might let you pick up the medicine from them. He’ll need two or three treatments of Revolution. The first one, then again a month later. After giving him the first dose you’ll want to give your place a good clean and throw any fabric in the washer and clean his cage out real good.

Are there any other things I could give him besides revolution that of course will be safe for him? Because at the moment I can’t afford to take him to the vet and plus he gets freaked out extremely easily and I don’t want anything to happen to him? And thank you for your response.

The only other treatment I’ve been told about from here or my vet was an injection of Ivermectin. Frontline and other flea/tick meds aren’t safe for them, and my vet said dusting powders were also unsafe for them. I understand the money thing. My vet bill for bringing both buns in was $325, which I also couldn’t afford. You could see if your vet does a payment plan. My vet is letting me pay off the balance over the course of a few months.

I actually found some revolution online and was wondering how much of it should I give him? And should I use the one for dogs or cats?

Dogs or cats is the same thing, provided the active substance is selamectin. You should buy the one for cats and dogs under 5 pounds. That’s fine for a rabbit.

You give it at the nape of the neck if the instructions on the package doesn’t say anything else. You can give the full kitten/puppy dose to a bun, as long as the bun is older than 8 weeks.

Hi I wont be able to get revolution for coco until beginning of December, so until then, could I somehow control the mites from going crazy? Can I do it by maybe doing a big deep cleaning and disinfecting everything and brushing him with a fine toothed comb?
