        Hi all,

I’ve been having some minor issues with my buns lately, who seem to be getting a little more rowdy with each other. We have been doing 3-4 hour sessions for two weeks now. The first week they were absolutely wonderful, but the second week they seemed to be getting more and more nippy.

I was wondering if they might be changing because I haven’t been doing prebonding on top of the bonding sessions. Normally I would switch them into each others rooms for at least a few hours a day. Could it be that they don’t ever get each other’s “smell” in their areas anymore so it’s causing them to be a little scruffy in meetings?

I’m not sure if that has any effect, but I’m going to try switching them again and see if that helps diffuse the high tensions. My first time bonding so I wasn’t sure if I’m supposed to continue prebonding stuff too.

Yes, you continue prebonding while doing bonding sessions Its possible that is causing them to be snippy with one another, but around the week or two mark of bonding is usually when they start to feel comfortable enough in the situation where their true emotions come out. Thankfully, once they work through these emotions and frustrations, is when they will start to bond and eventually cement their bond.

Week 2 can be the trickier week as Mikey said – they are getting more comfortable with each other and also trying to work out a pecking order.

Definitely continue with pre-bonding while you bond. That way you are keeping more of their routine regular, and you continue to get all the benefits of pre-bonding.

I didn’t even think about it until recently! I just assumed that the face-to-face meetings would do the trick, but they aren’t smelling each other in their areas anymore so maybe that could help foster trust if they are switched again.

              Thanks!
