        Hey all,

I have been having problems with one of my buns, he completely destroys every litter box. I mean he literally EATS THE SIDES of every litter box I have ever put in his condo. I don’t know what to use anymore because he has gnawed through every type of tote and tub I have tried.

What should I use that will be safe if he keeps destroying his box? Is there anyway to train him to stop doing this? and any ideas as to why in the world is he doing this?!

He LOVES to chew on everything. We put willow stick huts in his condo once a week, but he will have the whole thing destroyed to pieces overnight.

I feel like his chewing levels are excessive, should I be worried?

Sorry for all the questions, I am just baffled, TIA!

I believe you can fix this problem by using a glass or ceramic dish of some sort. I don’t think rabbits are able to chew through glass/ceramic material.. I don’t know what level of chewing is normal for rabbits, my rabbit is a young unspayed female and she has severe digging/chewing issues of my carpet in my bedroom. Give him lots of things to chew and lots of toys to play with that will be safe if he destroys them.

That’s a good idea. I’ve been looking around but can’t find anything that would be deep enough. When my bunnies were young they were all chewers too, but for some reason this little guy has kept up the habit. He doesn’t play with toys much, but he does love chewing on willow sticks. He has plenty of those!

Haha, I think glass dish is a good idea. Maybe some sort of lasagne dish? I have a glass lasagne dish that is pretty much the size of their litter trays now I think about it!

Yeah, I would try a glass baking dish, too. If you get the pyrex ones they are very shatter-resistant and should be able to handle some abuse from a bunny. If your bunny likes to throw things, too, it’s probably much safer to get one designed to not shatter, even if it’s more expensive.

A metal roasting pan may work also.

Some rabbits are just big chewers, but maybe have his teeth checked?? Some of our members here see that is a sign that their rabbit needs a molar trim. They start to chew on everything.
