So I’m working on bonding my two and I have a few days off next week and I wanted to bring them both to the vet for a wellness check up. But I’ve heard people say that the strange smells can make a bonded pair have issues. Mine are not bonded, but would it harm their relationship if I brought them to the vet? I would put each in a separate carrier obviously. I just don’t want to get home and have the freak out at each other or break the trust they have built so far.

I think if one was to stay at the vets for a while (overnight for example) there’s more chance of them smelling differently (the environment itself, other animal, other people etc) but if it’s just a wellness check I don’t think it would be an issue.

I was going to bring them both in too, so they would both smell differently. If I bring them in should I just not do a session that day to make sure they don’t have any issues with each other?

They’ll both smell a little different but because you won’t be there for long, they’ll still smell mostly like themselves. They won’t have time to pick up a lot of smells so to speak. If you’re really worried, I’d let them chill on their own for a few hours when you get back (so they can pick up their normal home smell a bit more) and then try a session.

When I was bonding peep and yumi I brought them to the vet, they both hate carriers and vet so I used it as a stress session.
Like Sarah says the smell thing is only really an issue with long term or medication.
