I’ve had my lionhead for a little over a year, and no matter what I do she just does not come out of her cage, I’ve tried everything I can think of, even taking her out and closing the cage door but she just stands at her cage door and won’t move till I open the door back for her and she jumps back in, idk if this could mean her previous owners just keeping her in the cage 24/7 possibly or what and that’s what she’s used to maybe? Any suggestions on how to get her more willing to spend time out of her cage?

Firstly I’d recommend not closing the door on her when you bring her out. If she is so keen on being in her cage this is clearly what she considers her safe space. You need to also let her take her own time in coming out. It’s simply no good expecting her to be okay with coming out of her cage at times you want her to. In my opinion rabbits need consistency and it’s completely understandable that owners can not stick to the same times everyday due to other commitments. I’d suggest getting an x pen and permanently attaching this to her cage then she is feee to come and go as she pleases not just when you’re there to let her out. If this is something you haven’t already got. Once you have the xpen put some boxes and tunnels in there so she can retreat into those to help her feel less exposed. Do not try to interfere with her during this either. Your bunny needs to gain the confidence to step out alone and to understand that it’s something for her enjoyment and not because somebody wants to grab her or pet her. Once she is comfortable with this then she may feel like she wants to explore the rest of the room without the xpen if this is something you are wanting to work towards.
