I got my bun stitch about a week ago, my sister originally got him but he bonded instantly to me and was bloated and not spoken care of from the breeder she purchased him from. She was told he was a pure bred flemish giant but after researching online and comparing him to pictures he looks as if he is a continental giant because of his ears. They are more rounded than a flemish, and his color is agouti which flemish giants don’t usually come in that color. But then I have reason to beleive he is neither. He is supposedly 8-9 weeks old, but it feels as if his testicals have already dropped but he is only about 2 lbs and seems kind of small. The breeder she got him from had a pedigree flemish, along with a few other flemish giants, French lops, and a few rex bun babies.. They were kept in small cages, and all the babies in one tiny cage and they could barely hop around and they were all in a small shed with the cages all stacked with no air ventilation or heat control or insulation for the cold. I told her she shouldnt have bought from her as to not support a breeder like that, but she felt ad if she had to “save” him. So my question is what do you guys think.. Flemish, continental, or mix or none of the above because of his size, or is he younger than what was advertised, or just malnourished? He has gained weight sonce being with me in the last week alone. Any ideas appreciated. Thank you!

In photos he doesn’t appear to have the agouti markings a flemish has ( agouti markings is different than agouti colour – it means he would have white in his ears , around his eyes , under his chin and tummy , and under tail )
He appears to be solid agouti in colour is that right?

Agouti flemish giants definitely are available – I have seen many and owned one that colour – however agouti coloured flemishes have agouti markings – which yours does not seem too.
I would say Flemish giant cross for that reason.

As for age – 9 weeks is going to have dropped – not unheard of… but young.
Had they dropped when you got him? Has he grown since you got him?
If he has grown in size since you got him I would say he is under 5-6 months , but whether he is as young as 9 weeks is hard to tell. He could be and just a young dropper…

I just read you said 2lbs!!!! At 9 weeks he should be at least 4lbs if he was a full flemish … and if he is 4 months ( would explain the maturity dropping ) he would be 8lbs at least …
So no way in my opinion is he pure flemish.
Ontop of the lack of agouti markings.
He does have big ears though so he will have growing to do in my opinion.
Based on all that I would say he is a flemish cross – about 3-4 months and my guess would be that he will reach 5lbs full grown

Yea he is full agouti color, and has no markings, under his belly is just grey fluff, and I was wrong when I say hos festivals dropped. They havent. A rabbit savvy neighbor of mine just corrected me and informed me no they have not, it was just his “parts” that I was feeling. And he has gained about a pound since I got him a week ago. Sorry for the mix up, I really thought his tesitis were there :-/

1lb is good gain so he is still young as he weight gain hasn’t slowed , I still don’t think as large as a flemish since at 9 weeks he would weigh double his size if pure
And he doesn’t have agouti markings so would be a cross.
                He’s cute though

Thank you! I uploaded a pic of his underside, chin and belly. Is that the white you were talking about? But yea I’m pretty sure he is a mix too of some sort, but I can’t complain bc his personality is AMAZING. ?

I weighed him on a bathroom scale.. Held him amd weighed then put him down and weighed. I dont think he is much more than that bc he is light. I’m not sure. I hope he is actually a flemish and will get a considerate size if not no big deal but I will be a little disappointed bc I was looking forward to a larger size.

Similar but it’s white white usually – and they have white under belly and white circles around the eyes

You cant be holding him really while weighing him or you wont get a proper result. If he is 2lbs at his size, hes incredibly underweight.

Is it possible to go to a rabbit certified vet? Theyll help you figure out his breed, proper weight, and of course give him a wellness check

I have an appt for an initial visit in 2 weeks and he was skinny when I first got him. His bones were sharp to the touch and he was just incredibly bloated and dehydrated and when I picked him up it was like holding nothing. I did talk to a reputable Flemish breeder and he informed me he is definately a flemish, and doubts that he is mixed, just mixed colors bc when you breed your not exactly supposed to breed certain color flemish to certain colors.
