Apologises for always having my forums like this where it is numbered but I want to be a good mommy for my Blizzard so I want to be able to get all the answers I need.

        1. I currently use Carefresh but I feel as if they’re expensive and they tend to leave a nasty smell when I have only changed 24 hours prior. I want to use something absorbent and also kills half the smell of Blizzard’s pee smell. I always change his litter every day but I want to make it last at least 2 -3 days since Carefresh is expensive and it’s the only brand of litter / bedding that I trust right now. I also heard about wood stove pellets and really want to look into that but what if Blizzard wants to chew on the pellets thinking it’s his food pellets? I have tried Kaytee Clean & Cozy but they’re also on the expensive side (depending where I get them). I do just want something that does not make my room smell too bad after 24 hours to changing it.

        2. Blizzard loves carrots but I don’t want to only feed him that constantly. Can someone recommend some vegetables and fruits that are safe for buns and how much they can intake?

        3. How often do you guys feed your buns some treats? I also do by the end of play time and feed him the Pumpkin Spice treats that are sold in the BB store. I also feed him Oxbrow treats since that’s also the only brand I trust. I do want to try other treats. Is Vitakratt a good brand of treats? Is there any recipes out there so I could also save money?

        4. Is there a way to prevent buns from chewing on wood furniture? Blizzard will chew on his cage which is wood and also on my wooden drawers. I heard tape works to stop them but sometimes he’ll try to chew on the tape too and that worries me.

Thank you and sorry for having so many questions!

I used to use carefresh and I too found it very costly. I use wood pellets, and both buns did have a nibble at first but they soon realised it wasn’t tasty and just leave it alone now.

Carrots are very high in sugar and should only be given in moderation. Bunnies need leafy greens, such as romaine lettuce, rocket, watercress, spinach, bok choy, spring greens, chicory, mint, dill, thyme, rosemary, kale etc.

In terms of treats, I don’t give store bought treats. I do buy dried dandelion and plantain and chicory root. I give my rabbits their daily allowance of pellets throughout the day as treats. Buns love veggies, mine in particular love dill and thyme as treats. Dried chicory root is a winner too. They get a mid morning treat (chicory root) and a bedtime treat (again, chicory root but once I’ve re-introduced dill, they’ll have that for bed time) Pellets randomly throughout day.

Not sure of a chewing deterrent!

            Hello!

            1) I’ve said it a lot, but I totally swear by wood stove pellets! You can buy these in several guises, they are really all the same, just compressed pine pellets. Feline Pine is one you can buy at the pet store, but that will be the most expensive option. I buy my wood pellets from our farm feed store, they sell them as both wood stove pellets and equine stall pellets. Some tractor supply stores also have them, and in cold climates they sell them at hardware stores like Home Depot or Lowes (if you’re in the US).

            2) As Sarah said, bunnies should get carrots only as a treat. If Blizzard is over 3 months old, he can have a daily portion of leafy greens. In general you feed about 1 cup for every 2lbs of body weight. Thor is about 5lbs so she gets 2-3 cups a night. I feed spring mix, romaine lettuce, dandelion greens, spinach, fennel, mint, basil, dill, parsley, cilantro… and other things I’m not thinking of right now. You can look at bunny friendly lists of veggies online or in the BUNNY INFO tab on this site

            3) We do one or two “treats” a day, but these can be small bits of fruit or just a healthy herb that your rabbit loves. We don’t have any store bought treats right now. Thor also loves her pellets so these are basically a treat as well. Oh and she loves dried willow!

            4) You can buy clear plastic corner guards to put on edges of furniture, these can come with stick on edges and have worked well for us so far.

I am looking into wood stove pellets for I really want to try something inexpensive and very good to use. Blizzard is a year old and I feed him about 1/4 cup of pellets and greens is something I don’t really feed him yet for I don’t know how much or what kinds. I do feed him spinach but only about a cup but he’s about 5 – 6 lbs so definitely should feed him more. I did buy store bought treats thinking they’re good for bunnies. Wow, my mistake. Thank you for your feedback!
