My new bunny (8weeks old) I got a couple days ago has been having soft poop that smells and clumps together. I haven’t given him veggies yet… he is acting normal. He runs around, doing binkies, flopping, stretches and sleeps wherever he pleases, eating pellets, hay, drinking water etc. He was eating different pellets from the ones I give him now, but I do a half half of what he used to eat with the ones I have now. Is there anything I’m doing wrong? He’s worrying me

How long have you been mixing half of the old pellets with the new pellets for? He may need to start off with 3/4 of the pellets he’s used to eating, and 1/4 of the new pellets. The poop could also be cecals (which all buns poop, and subsequently eat). It wouldn’t be uncommon for a young bun to not eat all his cecals, but there shouldn’t be a lot of them lying around either . There is a good “Guide to Bunny Poop” thread in this (Diet & Care) forum – it should help you determine whether he has soft poops or normal cecals.

Alright, I’ll try 3/4 and see how it goes. Thank you!

Update: I just checked his litter box more thoroughly and noticed that he seems to be litter trained now, except for the soft poops…. everything else is in the litter box but for some reason he is leaving his soft poops outside? Is that weird? He also lays on top of them…

Buns usually poop while they eat, so if his hay is by his litter box then that’s good. While cecals are technically poop, they are not the same kind of poop as regular poop, so buns don’t usually end up eliminating cecals in the litter box. Assuming the soft poops are in fact cecals, it’s not surprising that the cecals are not in the litter box .

I do believe they are cecals, is there anyway I can train him to just leave it in the litter box? The hay is inside the litter box, and yes where he actually chooses to sleep is where the cecals are which is best the the litter box.
