Been in our second bonding session of the day for 4 hours. I’ve seen Ophelia go potty on the floor several times, but I haven’t seen Quincy go even once. He drinks a lot more than her usually. I know he is very great about waiting until he is in the litter box to do his business, but I haven’t got litter boxes around because it causes them to fight. So, I’m wondering: do bunnies “hold it” ? I wouldn’t imagine they do. But I don’t remember seeing him go earlier, either (that was also a 4 hour session). As I said, he’s stellar with litter habits. At this point should I put her in the carrier for a second and set a litter box down so he can go potty in there- if he needs to?

Asriel used to hold it until he was out of his cage. His water dish was always half empty when we got home, but his litter box and cage bottom were completely dry. The second we let him out to play he would pee at least 3-4 times a night. But now he’s a good bun and always uses the litter box ? He is a rebel bun no more!

            Short answer – Yes.

They are fully capable of holding it. Some bunnies are quite good about actually doing it. I think it depends on how particular they are about going in their special spot (some bunnies are extremely anal about it) and if they have a habit of territorial marking.

Yes they can. They can stop midstream. I’ll pick up Wick during or right before a sassy pee incident and he won’t release again until I have him in his litter box. Thanks for not peeing on me bud.

Yep! Blue refuses to pee anywhere aside from his litter box. If he pees somewhere he is not supposed to, its because he couldnt hold it any longer; he then acts very embarrassed afterwards, like he is shamming himself. Its adorably sad

Awww Mikey that sounds so cute! I didn’t know that about buns, I assumed they would just go whenever they feel like it. I think he is a “I go where I want to” kinda bun

Yeah, they can definitely hold it. Bandit used to hold it if I had to put him in his outside hutch for house inspections. As soon as I brought him in he’d pee and poop up a storm

Luna has held it once, the poor thing was “stuck” on the upstairs level from the scary smells of me cooking one night, and I guess she held it as long as she could but she suddenly popped into one of the corners and just let out a HUGE amount of pee I felt bad that she’d been trying to hold it but was too scared to go down to the litter tray because of the cooking smell.

Lol, my Bombur is like that. He will pee on things he likes and places he likes. We have to keep the closet blocked off now because he would constantly go in there and pee anywhere all over the area and everything in it I am glad my other two are not like that. Badger will throw a fit if he has to pee; I havent seen him have an accident yet because we always make it back to his litter box/cage in time. Blue has held it on vet visits before and has had a few accidents. Hes also peed himself once or twice during a super deep sleep. Poor adorable bunny

Yep. Chewie runs circles around me sometimes while I’m cleaning his box if he needs to use it. It’s quite sweet.
