I was just wondering when Mile and Bella bond and i put them in the same cage, will one of them try to eat each others cecotropes? Or bunnies know by scent which one’s are theirs?

Well usually they eat them right from the source so to speak. Mine do anyway. So there’s no way they could accidently eat the other’s cecals.

Yeah, but sometimes when Bella gets down there and eats them, sometimes they fall on the Cage floor and she doesn’t seem to eat them. I just thought maybe Mile will try to eat the fallen ones? If a bunny does eat her cecotropes, will it do something?

Ah Okay, never had that problem sorry! I don’t think it’ll do any harm

If by accident, you mean on purpose… then yes, yes they will.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. It happens. Sometimes I’ll spot a stray one. I go back to pick it up and it’s mysteriously gone. I don’t think they necessarily care where it came from.

I’ve been living with Fernando and Panda for almost 3 weeks now and I’ve never yet even seen (or smelt) a cecotrope, so I couldn’t even tell you if they ever eat each other’s cecals. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Fernando, at any rate, eating cecotropes one fine Saturday morning even if I didn’t actually see the things, because he was in the characteristic pose and chewing away busily.

For something so cute, they sure can be gross.
