        Hi, guys!

I hope everyone is doing well. I have had some recent success with light foraging for Jake and Yulie (mostly just a bit of grass every night) because I’m lucky to have a beautiful meadow-type forest in my backyard. Jake and Yulie take extremely well to their forage (been about a week on a bit of grass a night and poops, energy, and appetite are all A+!) well, as I was venturing into the forest, I saw an apple tree. The areas where I get grass are far from pollution, lawnmowers, dogs, and other potential disturbances (and of course they’re all washed before hand!)

I was wondering if it would be safe to harvest a few twigs. I would, of course, wash them and then bake them. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Yes you can totally harvest and there is absolutely no need to wash or bake them first. Baking will make them not as tasty for the bunnies. Just make sure it really is apple and not a bad kind of stick for bunnie:-)! You also don’t need to wash grass. Rabbits in the wild eat mainly grass and some grows around dogs, cars, and people. It’s still ok for your rabbits. I feed my bunny grass and clover and twigs and leaves and weeds all the time. ?❤️?

Actually, greens should be washed to reduce risk of prasitical or viral infections. But twigs don’t need to be washed.

I wash grass because wild animals can have peed and pooped on it. We don’t have racoons here, but we have lots of wild rabbits. They can carry viruses and parasites that can be transferrable, so I wash everything that’s been growing on the ground. Fresh grass is very good for rabbits, so I give fresh grass to my bun every day now while it’s still growing. (Winter is coming. Hehe.)

I don’t wash apple twigs, but birds can poop on them and bird feces can contain nasty stuff. If you see bird poop on a twig, obviously choose another twig =) The trees mustn’t have been treated with pesticides.
