Hi everyone! I have 2 rabbits, one male rabbit born at may 5th 2017 named Alfie and an female rabbit born 30 may 2017 named Sylviis. When I first put them together they were perfect for each other. Though Sylviis is a very scared bunny and Alfie is very dominant and straight forward (walks towards my cat without fear haha) but not long after Alfie got fixed, They started to fight. It always went like this: Alfie wanted play and ran towards Sylviis but she got scared, put down her ears and made this squicky noice. This probably made Alfie angry? Then he started scratching her. I wanted to know who exactly did what so first I hold Alfie so that Sylviis could come to him at her own time, when she did Alfie started licking her. When i hold Sylviis, I think Alfie comes in her space too fast so she does that sound again etc. Now could fixing Sylviis make any difference? Besides that there is a bunny I know for sale who is straight forward, calm but not scared at all. Might getting a 3rd bunny with a calm and relaxed personality help them level? Other than that I know both Syl and Alfie like attention and maybe the 3rd bunny could be a friend to both?

Did you just lump them together? You need to bond them properly, and the first step is neuter and spay both.

Do not get a third bunny. That will just be adding fuel to the fire and you will be left with an even bigger situation to try and rectify. Unfortunately the world of rabbits isn’t as simple as just adding in another personality to try and create a balance.

These guys were only born in May – I’m guessing they haven’t been neutered/spayed very long? It can take 6 weeks for hormones to settle and until that time they need to be separate.

Look into pre-bonding before you try bonding again. Pre-bonding is when you keep them separate but either swap who is in which cage each day, or swap their bedding, litter, toys, etc each day so they get used to each other’s scent. If you use the search feature of this forum you will find a lot on bre-bonding.

Pre-bonding should be 4-6 weeks – this can include recovery time from their spay/neuter though. Then you can look at slowly bonding. Don’t rush it, it can make things worse. And sorry but a third but won’t help.

Is syl spayed ? Or just Alfie neutered?
Both need desexed or it’s likely Syls hormones causing this.
As mentioned above – you can’t just put two bunnies together without bonding . Most baby bunnies will get on with each other until maturity hits then suddenly often without warning there are fights – which can ruin the chance of bonding – or worse.
If she isn’t desexed youlll need to do that before bonding
