Looking for a little insight …I’ve had  Norman over a month now and generally he’s a sweet, affectionate bun. When he’s out he follows me around like a puppy and loves to get head rubs. BUT when I sit down on the floor with him, he loves to nip me in the knees! Or sometimes on the back of the leg   It’s not hard enough to break the skin or leave much of a mark, but enough to make me give a little yelp and sometimes put holes in my clothes.

Am I right that this is likely just nipping (vs biting). He’s shown no signs of aggression so I really don’t think it’s meant to hurt me. That said, it’s painful! I do give a little squeal and he seems to understand that, but he just does it again a little while later. LOL

It’s not a huge deal but I would like to understand why he does it. Attention? Frustration?

Sounds like groom nipping. I’d make your Yelp a bit more prominent, and retract the body part. Gets the message across better.

My Panda has a tendency to nip every so often, too, chiefly to get extra attention. She’s kind of self-contradictory about that; she’s skittish about being petted but loves being talked to. Actually, I’m not entirely sure at this point that she’s not at least partially being deliberately coy just to mess with me!

Anyway, after I gave her a good yelp a couple of times when she nipped me a bit too hard on my hand or arm, she’s now nipping my clothes when she wants to get my attention. I’m keeping an eye on that to make sure she doesn’t nip so hard as to threaten to tear them, but if she does, here comes another “Eek!” and “No!”.

Ok, I’ll keep yelping!. I have to admit…I probably do more swearing than I do yelping, will have to work on that. LOL
