Hi does anyone have any good tips for trimming nails? My rabbit is white so I can see the quick very easy, But what is the best way to hold him? Should I have someone else hold him? I have a guinea pig and he’s a piece of cake to do, just give him food and he don’t care but my rabbit wiggles a lot

        Thanks for any advice!!

My Ophelia absolutely hates anyone to try to hold/grab her. She will grunt at you if it seems like you are trying. What I have done is lure her on to the couch and distract her with snacks- salad, bell peppers, herbs, etc. while she is eating she is distracted enough to let me cut two or three nails. She is up in the couch and I kneel on the ground so I can get a good hold of her paw and make sure I don’t hurt her. it takes me a few days to get them all cut, but it’s a lot less stressful for her so I’m good with that

I just tried this technique and it worked like a charm with a very wiggly bunny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9KemnaTGIs&t=1s

I did cheat and have a helper though, so I was holding the bun and my husband actually did the trimming. But, my bunnies are BIG, so it’s hard for me to support them with just one hand!

It’s hard to trim nails especially rabbit because they are so quick. Better go to vet.

I’m planning myself to go to the Friends of Rabbits people for at least the first couple nailtrim sessions; I just happen to have a discount coupon for the first one! Eventually, though, I suppose I’ll have to bite the bullet and learn how to do a “bunny burrito” so I can do the job myself. Ah well, brushing their fur this weekend is going to be enough fun…

If I hold my rabbit a certain way, he’ll just hang there like a little rag doll. For some reason he likes being held that way so ill hold him and have my mom help me trim his nails. Thanks for the link! wish me luck!

lol brushing isn’t so bad, just do a brush and pet, brush and pet… Then they wont mind so much! I wish I had the option for someone else to trim his nails, but then he’s most use to me so he’ll relax more…hopefully…
