I’ve never been a hard-liquor man, but I do like my beer (and occasionally wine) of a weekend evening, so I’m sitting here with a bottle of German beer and wondering whether Panda and Fernando care for the smell of it or whether they’ll run away…?

Ophelia will come up and sniff my beer! I’ve even spilled a drink of rum on the floor and she had a lick before I shooed her away…

Chewie loves a good Tom Collins and has sniffed wine quite cooly on occasion.

I vote it wouldn’t be offensive to them I suspect they’d be curious about what you’re drinking and wondering when the waiter (er…you) will be bringing theirs.

I found the picture I have been looking for since I saw this thread!!!

This was when she was about 4 months. I used to spend so much time on the floor trying to bond with her and I would get bored so I would have some drinks

I saw her doing this and snapped the pic captioned “Sorry ma’am, but I’ll need to see some ID”

                  Cutie pie!

I’m so envious of Ophelia. Corona with lime is my favourite beer and I only get to have the odd bottle once every few years. Damn dry country.

So I used to HATE coronas… My parents were not drinkers at all so I wasn’t really versed on alcohol. I tried a corona once without lime and I was like “THIS IS AWFUL”. . . . . . but adding the lime and now it’s my favorite! I can’t stand dark beers

Me too. Except Guiness IF it’s fresh (as in… on tap in Dublin LOL)
And Fat Tires (a Colorado microbrew)

Have you ever had sour beers? I actually do like them! Very interesting taste because you can’t really taste that “wheaty” taste of beer, which is a flavor I really don’t care for too much. But they definitely have to be fresh from a tap!

Haven’t tried any. Intriguing concept, though…

My own particular beers are St. Pauli Girl (the German beer I was drinking last night) and Sierra Nevada Torpedo, a very high-hopped American craft beer that I was introduced to last Christmas when I went to a family reunion in North Carolina and visited the Sierra Nevada brewery at Asheville. I’ve had Corona a fair number of times but I do prefer my SPG and now the ol’ Torpedo. There’s a beer/wine store chain near me (Virginia is one of these states where hard liquor is a state government monopoly) that sells all sorts of beer, including those wretched dishwater major-corporate brands.

Q8, hang in there – it’ll be only a few more months now and you’ll be back where the beer (and other potables) flow freely!

BunNoob, I see Ophelia drinks “light”. No doubt she considers it better-tasting and less filling.

P&F didn’t seem to be at all offended by the odor of beer that must definitely have been hanging around me after several bottles. Then again, they were smelling St.Pauli Girl. I wonder how they’ll react to the whiff of a high-alcohol-content, high-hop brew.

I got curious, so I decided just now to take an empty bottle from last night over to Fernando and held it out for him to sniff. He not only doesn’t seem to have any problem with the smell, he started trying to nibble at the glass. Er, my lad, you’re supposed to drink this, not eat it…

My eejit of a bridge bun was mad for alcohol. He used to jump up on tables to stick is face into wine glasses, was known to roll the vodka bottle around the room, would attempt to guzzle mead at every opportunity. We’d an awful time keeping him out of the recycling where he tried to lick at the bottles.

It was actually a nightmare keeping him away cause he was so bold and would legitimately scrape at peoples faces to try and get it out of their mouths.

I don’t care for Sierra Nevada at all !! I know tons of people who like it, but it’s just waaayy too yeasty tasting for me lol. Ophelia has tried rum on a few occasions. I did absolutely freak out, but I guess she was totally fine lol. I once dropped a perfectly delicious blender full of yummy, yummy pina coladas… no sooner then I could run and grab a towel, I come back and find Ophelia licking at the puddle of it  I do wonder though if it had any affect on her? I didn’t notice anything but I was worried about her liver. She was probably thinking “you should worry about your own liver mom. After all, you DID make a BLENDER of pina coladas on a Wednesday afternoon”

That’s what you get for drinking on a weekday afternoon.

Now, I just opened a fresh bottle of St. Pauli Girl. Fernando was periscoping at the fence to see what was going on (and I think he detected the scent of fresh beer!), so I offered him the bottle to sniff – and wouldn’t you know it, he grabbed at the bottle with his teeth as if trying to take a swig! Needless to say, he’s staying teetotaler. I gave Panda a sniff just now too, she doesn’t seem inclined to follow Fernando into incipient beer-guzzling, thank heavens!
