        Hi everyone,

I have an aerogarden which is great for keeping the bun’s fresh green supply going! I’m looking at some seed kits and saw this one. Are all these varieties of basil safe? He loves regular basil so I’m thinking this would be a hit.

Admittedly, I did not search every type listed in that pack, but I believe all varieties of basil are okay. The only scenario I read was Holy Basil, but Holy Basil is pretty bitter that humans wouldn’t eat it either, so I think you’re safe.

Varieties aside, if you do purchase it and decide to give some to your rabbit, I’d try each type separately, giving each about 2 days to see how your rabbit reacts, plus perhaps 1 wash-out day in between each, just in case basils synergize a bad reaction.

Thanks. I figured as much but wanted to double check with my fellow bunny lovers

And yes, I wouldn’t try them all at once. I was actually planning to only grow one or two varieties at a time, mixed in with some other pods I have (lettuce and other herbs). He does love regular basil, so I’m hoping the others would be a hit as well.

I find it easier to grow basil outside, I have made the mistake of buying 3 extra varieties when the first one looked like it was dying, but they jump back quickly after being transplanted and start growing like weeds, so much basil started attracting new wild basil somehow. ._. We have purple, sweet, lemon and thai all growing together. When they seed I give my buns the stalks of flowers. My basil plants are about half my height now and I never run out.

That’s great! I don’t live in a climate where much of anything grows well outside (sadly!) so the counter top system has been working well for me
