Hi I have a 13 week old bunny… I’ve tried to litter train him and it isn’t working. I have him in a hutch in my room and I just can’t seem to train him. He tends to use it as a bed. I use hay in the box but I’m gonna start using wooden shavings…. any suggestions??

Can I ask you’ve tried? And for how long

Wooden stove pellets are a cheap and easy litter to use in a litter tray!

My buns have all liked to sleep in their litter tray, so it’s normal that he does that!

Also your bunny is still only a baby so litter training might go over his head for a while, these things can take time.

There’s a general consensus that once he hits puberty he’ll ‘forget’ his litter training unless he’s neutered.

It’d be helpful to know your training technique!

I just put hay in his litter box, I tried with critter litter but he started eating it. I put some of his poop in the litter box so he knows it’s his litter box.

when he goes somewhere else than his litter box clean up the area and put the paper towel soaked in his pee into the litter box (make sure he doesn’t chew on the paper towel) and some of his poops. Repeat this a few times and you will see how quickly he will learn to go in the litter box. but make sure to clean up the non litter area fully so he isn’t confused.
Also…a heads up…once he gets to about 3 months old he may lose his litter training a bit as his hormones kick in and you will have to start again and maybe even move him to the litter box each time after he goes somewhere else. This is the stage I am at with Sprocket…he keeps going on my bed. eeek.
