JUST MOVED THIS TO HOUSE BUNNY Q&A – NOT SURE WHICH PLACE IS BEST

Also can’t work out how to delete – duh. Sorry!

        **************************************************************************

        Hi everyone,

Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

We have adopted a second bun to bond with Marla with the obvious intention of having two happy bunny pals keeping each other company and forming a lifelong friendship . Having an issue even starting the process though so let me give you a rundown:

Short Round (our newest addition, a male dutch) is sneezing and has a bit of a snotty nose. We refuse to let him in the same room as Marla while he’s like this *just incase* it’s something serious, although our vet has said it’s just stress.

        • We adopted him on the 19th of June
        • He was neutered on the 13th of July (almost a month later)
        • He had a fair few subsequent check ups – perhaps 4 in the next couple of weeks, plus a couple of visits due to his sticky nose

The vet thinks it may be all this vet visiting that has caused the stress.

This leaves us in a bit of a weird situation where we don’t want to take him to the vet, but he is still sneezing and he’s got a snotty nose.

We were using puppy pads but he was chewing them so we were using news paper and then we filled a cardboard box with litter and hay and poops and are hoping he likes that instead.

We haven’t changed his hay or washed anything in detergent and he’s living in one room in the house atm (which he doesn’t seem to like much and keeps trying to get out – probably adding to the stress) but as you can understand we can’t let him roam free because at some point he’ll come into contact with Marla.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue! Do you have any rabbit de-stressing tips?? I have cleaned his nose up a bit which he didn’t seem to mind at all and his breathing isn’t wheezy or whistley like it was when it first started but once the bisolvon runs out I’m concerned it will go back that way if we don’t sort out the cause.

        Many thanks!

I absolutely adore his fur pattern!! What a cute bun

When my bunnies are stressed out, extra pets, greens, and floor time help them out. Ill usually lay on the floor for an hour or two handing out bits of veggies and pets whenever they come by. Its like a mix of play and treats entirely at their pace.

Aw thank you Mikey, he’s handsome isn’t he!

I have been trying to be very attentive today, I was letting him roam around upstairs and he even let me clean his nose a bit which was nice! Then I went into his room a little while ago and sat on the floor and he licked while I petted. He’d very affectionate so I am concerned he’s lonely in there – but I can’t mix him with Marla until I know he’s okay such an unfortunate catch 22! Will go in with some greens and try that, thank you!

Have you ever experienced sneezing/snotty noses as a stress response?? Thanks!
