Hello everyone!!!  I am a brand new bunny mom.  I never thought about ever having a rabbit as a pet.  But you know they say never say never.

Our rabbits name is Ginger.  She is a Holland Lop and is a very loving girl.  She was born Jan. 19, 2015 and I honestly can’t say if she has been spayed.

She loves my 2 dogs and my cat.  Ginger has a big rabbit condo I built for her in my home office.  She sits less than 4 feet from me.  If I kick the dogs and cat out, Ginger gets a little mad at me for that.  I couldn’t ask for a better pal to share the day with when I work.

Ginger has been with us for a couple of weeks.  Before us she lived with us she belonged to my now 11 year olds friend.  Sadly her friend was killed last year along with her friends brother by their mom.  Their mom also took her own life.  Her friends dad has had the rabbit for the last year but I think it was getting to hard to see Ginger everyday knowing that his little girl will never get to play with her again.  So he called us and asked if we would take Ginger, and I couldn’t say no.  That is when Ginger came to our house.

The last time I ever dealt with rabbits was 20 years ago when I was in FFA.  So I am learning everything all over again.  But it is fun learning as I go.

You’ve done a great thing, and it’s great you and Ginger are hitting it off well. It would be beneficial to make an appointment with an exotic vet (rabbit-experienced) so you can get a good baseline of Ginger’s health, and also find out if she’s spayed.

BB forums is great for getting re-acquainted with everything. Looking forward to potential pictures and updates!

Welcome! Yes it is so great of you to take this bunny in, I’m very sorry to hear of the tragedy that befell your friends.

Glad you and Ginger are getting along well, it sounds like she is also getting along well with the other family pets. Everyone on here is so helpful for learning/re-learning bunny info, also looking forward to pictures and hearing how she is doing

Thank you for taking in Ginger and helping out the person who suffered a horrible family tragedy. I’m sure that he wouldn’t mind if you called him and asked whether he knows if Ginger was spayed or not. If he doesn’t know, maybe he could tell you the name of Ginger’s former vet, who may have spayed her or who may have it in their records.

Feel free to ask any care questions that you may have. The BUNNY INFO link at the top of the page is also very helpful.

I am lucky enough that our normal vet that sees our dogs and cat has a partner within the practice that sees rabbits.

Ginger is so scared being picked up so we are slowly working with her to trust being picked up.  She hasn’t really been picked up over the last year.
