Right now she has free roam for most of the day if I am home; which I usually am, with a few breaks in her cage for her to calm down and eat. But we are going on a week long trip in October and I know my MIL won’t want to keep an eye on her or try to put her up at night. So I want to get a nice size hutch with a run attached; we have a good size area I can put it. I have searched for a good size one but now I am confused on what would be best. Wood? Wire? Both? Handmade? Bought?

So any suggestion on a good, accessible for feeding and cleaning, but with room to roam when not allowed to roam the house, and big enough in the hutch that she isn’t cramped? She is a LopHead, we think a mix of French Lop and Lionhead but not sure. She can jump, HIGH, so the run will need to be covered or tall.

        My sweet Bun Bun!

I found wire pens do pretty good for me. Wood pens can get rather expensive and sometimes can get moldy. If you get a wire pen though, make sure the holes aren’t too big or your bun’s head might get stuck. 36 in. tall pens should keep her in.

Wood doesn’t have the best ventilation if covered btw. I personally like the wire pens with doors. Maybe you could get a two story condo and get a pen around it. Wire pens usually are able to connect to multiple others, so you can by like two pens and attach them to make one large one. (I’m still trying to figure this site out. I’m sorry if my replies are a little jumbled.) Your Bun Bun has glorious hair by the way. So majestic.

I also second a pen, you can get them for a fair price on amazon and they are practical and something you’ll most likely use for a looonng time. Warning though, I have a 40 in. tall pen and my 2 and a half month bun managed to jump out. this was easily fixed by just stretching a queen size bed sheet over the top
              Have fun on your trip!

Have you considered a large dog crate with pen attached to that? You can add a level to a crate also.

Yep. Large dog crate with hand made shelf and then you can fold it away when not in use….. my first xpen was slightly lightweight (meant to pen into the grass outside) so it wasnt very sturdy and with a few tugs and pulls and pushes my buns has redeisgned the shape of the pen (it was only attached to the crate in two places in a semicircle shape and only had a cat flap size door at the bottom of one of the grids Then i copied a fellow BB member and got a more sturdy puppy pen (with a door in one of the gates so access is easy) and OMG! even my determined buns have given up trying to get out…. lol.

So, if you can, buy better quality and you’ll have peace of mind for a safely enclosed bun.
Re the jumping, go for as high as you can…. better to be safe ghan sorry
