so i have a cage that opens by a door in the middle (attached photos)

currently it opens into a pen at play time and i cover the door with a wooden ramp for easy exit/entry by my buns ( again attached photo)

im looking to change my set up to two of these cages facing into each other so they have double the cage space. easy option. however i need the door of one openig into the other and want a ramp that takes up less space and more just a door cover if that makes sense?

and i would prefer padded or plastic over diy wooden as i dont want nailed items when unattended

        ill attach photos below

So first is Boston’s cage – I intend to buy a second one for Boston also and turn them towards each other. Picture new cages front door touching that other cages front door. On one I’ll remove the front door completely so the other cages door can open into the other cage.
Next photo shows the door I need to cover when it’s open – to stop feet getting stuck.
3rd photo shows current rank which I only use supervised as it’s nailed together

They wouldn’t manage the jump from one cage base to the next?
If you took off both doors, could you put a half-step on each side? A box of some sort that comes halfway up the height of the cage bases? Maybe a brick covered in fleece?

I’m too nervous -for Oakley as he is tiny even for a holland – and Boston’s eye sight
The door starts too bars up so if they managed to Nik their toes when jumping over it would be really dangerous for their legs / feet /toes

Oh, of course! I forgot about Bostons sight. He might surprise you though. Jelly managed to navigate his pen well and jump up and down from a second level.

I see what you mean about the door. You’d need to put some sort of capping over there.

Will have put my thinking cap back on. So ideally, you’d want a 2 way ramp? Or bridge of some sort. The coloured wooden bridge in your avatar, are there ones narrow enough that would sit over the door entry? And would they manage to scrabble over that?

What about using sides of these type of boxes. They normally come flat-packed.

Zip tie one panel to each side of the conjoined doorways?

Boston is good at navagatng his cage but terrible with height or tunnels etc . He stumbles off the top off hideaways so I can only give him things to jump on in a area where if he falls it’s only onto a cat bed.
The coloured bridge was my first thought too but I went to the petstore today to measure them to see if one will fit but the size I need is 25cm for the gap – the sticks are 30cm or 17cm. The 17cm would leave like 4cm either side of it where their feet could get stuck in the wire door…
I guess I just need something suitable to cover the door – like a ramp- so their feet don’t get stuck in the wire door ramp
The other side won’t have a door so they should be ok to jump off that

The boxes would be great ! Or even a seagrass mat – but sadly we get nothing like that here untreated

I thought I saw awhile ago ( when I didn’t need of course!) a cover for the door on eBay .., but I can’t find anything like that now
It was sort of a padded pillowcase that slipped over the door to prevent feet getting stuck when getting out of their cage

Just a thought… Could you put the entire sides up – the 2 that will be facing each other?
(Doing this, you would probably need to join the 2 short adjacent sides with cable ties or wire, to keep everything square).

That is a great idea but I’d be worried about the sturdiness for my kids – Ones balance isn’t the greatest..
That’s why pens up full time doesn’t work well here and I thought two cages in the day is better than one cage and just a pen after 7pm
