        Hello everyone,

This seems like a pretty straight forward answer, as I’ve always bought everything brand new for my boys (Henry and Harley, Cashmere Lops), as I’m unsure of buying things second hand for them.

So, I wanted to get others’ opinions on this?

I’m looking at buying a couple of ice pods for them each now the weather is starting to get much hotter, thing is I have to buy double of everything as they can no longer live in the same house, and as you can imagine it gets very expensive.

So, I’ve been trawling the internet to try and find somwhwhere I can get these ice pods without spending a fortune, and a few pre-owned ones have come up on eBay.
Like I said, I normally wouldn’t even think of it, but would it be worth it or not?

        Thank you in advance,

        Tanzi

Is an ice pod something plastic? Washable? If so I would think it is fine to get pre-used. I would just do a clean in bleach or run through the dishwasher when you receive it to remove anything that could be on it. Personally, the only thing I wouldn’t get pre-owned are things that can’t be thoroughly cleaned such as cloth and fleece.

As an aside, you don’t need to spend a fortune on ice pods for cooling. I use plastic soda bottles filled with water and frozen! They stay cold for a long time, especially if you cover them with a sock or other cloth. There are some nice pictures of rabbits using these on the BB page for cooling tips:

I agree with Thor about frozen water bottles! Cheap and effective plus less attractive for chewing-prone buns.

As for used toys etc, I have a used carrier. Everything plastic/metal that can be washed with bleach is fine imo.

I don’t see anything wrong with second hand items so long as they can be thoroughly cleaned. So wooden objects would be out but plastic toys etc should be fine.

              I use frozen water bottles!
