When I tell my house bunny off he runs away with his head side and shakes his ears.

He sometimes shakes his head when he’s just sitting down after he’s had a good wash.

My bunny has never been hit, just verbally scolded and he’s definitely not timid so it’s kind of out of character for him.

I’ve checked in his ears and I can’t see anything which I should be worried about.

Has anyone else experienced this with their bunny too? Is it a play thing or could it be worth taking him to the vets?

Rabbits dont understand human language all that well, so ‘telling him off’ is just a waste of breathe and energy for you. Consider “no” and redirect training instead. Since “no” is a short and simple word, bunnies are able to catch onto what it means. Of course, bunny proof the area as well. A bun is going to act on bunny instinct no matter what you do, because they are buns

For the record, those are partial binkies. I would take it hes happy to have your attention

I actually support your observations. Wick does a head shake which slaps his ears together when he’s shoo’d away from the laundry machines and some times when we shoo him away from the kitchen since we aren’t feeding him at that moment. He also does it at times when I coax him to the litter box or carry him there because I know he needs to pee and he isn’t going there.

It’s not a reaction to being verbally told off, more so the actions being done. Yes, rabbits do not understand language, but they pick up repetitive commands and tones well.

He also does it when his ears are made uncomfortable during a pet session.

Thor does the same thing when we direct her away from some naughty behavior! I have heard these are partial binkies and have assumed she is just a delighted little imp, happy to be causing trouble
