I have been seeing people discussing “doughy” bellies a lot lately. I am wondering what exactly this means. It sounds as if this means a belly that is super mushy? It is always always in a negative context so I am assuming it is not good…

How do I know if my bunny has a doughy belly and what causes this? If it’s doughy, what should I do for my bun?

        Thanks!

A bunny’s belly should be doughy. It means soft, like bread dough. This is important to know, because even vets who aren’t specialized in rabbits might think a bunny’s tum should be firm like a dog’s or a cat’s or a slim person’s. But if a bun’s tummy is firm, sth isn’t right.

What you can do is to establish a baseline by (gently) feeling your bun’s tum when he’s healthy. Because if you don’t have a sense of how it should feel, it is of course very difficult to tell if there’s been a change should you need to.

Thank you. I think I have been misinterpreting peoples context when saying this because I was under the assumption that it was not a good thing.

Sometimes, my bunny’s belly feels very soft so I didn’t know if there was such thing as too soft.
