  Has anyone ever fed peanut hay to their rabbits? I am trying to put weight on my elderly bun who has a less than healthy appetite, and I have a friend who offered to give me some peanut hay. I know it is a legume that is high in nutrients, but also has a reputation for high palatability, both of which suit the needs I have for my bunny. I was curious if anyone else had any experience with it?

  Hi! You could try critical care maybe for a while? Have you heard of it? I know some users who sprinkle it on their pellets to help with weight. I don’t know about peanut hay I’m sorry!

  I must admit, I’ve never even heard of peanut hay. It’s a legume so it makes sense that they could make a hay out of it but I would be hesitant to feed it. Could you try adding a bit of alfalfa hay to the diet? That may help, obviously still a legume but at least one that is known to be safe for rabbits. Otherwise I have heard of people adding 1 teaspoon – 1 tablespoon of oats to their buns daily diet to help with weight gain.

  I’ve never heard of peanut hay! But I have also heard of people adding oats to their rabbit’s diet to help them gain weight. I’ve also heard that people add cheerios

  Peanut hay from my experience is fine! I usually only give it to my bunny as a treat or if I run out of Timothy I’ll give some to her since I always have some on hand for the goats and horses. Just be very picky about the hay quality. Peanut hay goes bad fast. Make sure it is green and pick through it to makes sure it is clean of other debris.
