I’ve had her for a while now and she’s never let me hold her, I knew the previous owner and he rarely held her either, I think she’s too far gone now too let me hold her  She’s the sweetest rabbit but it looks like she tries to bite me when I try. The problem is I just got Panacur through the mail from the vet  and I have no idea at all how I’m going to give her it (just read the leaflet and apparently you’ve to give them it over 9 days  It’s in a syringe type thing to give orally. Some advice would be greatly appreciated!x

You have two choices: forcibly lift her either by hand or by ushering her into a basket or something and then do the medication on a table or you can kneel down, corner her with her butt against your knees, take hold of her chest and medicate her from that position (that’s how they usually do it at the vet’s). I personally haven’t mastered the kneeling technique and prefer to keep the bun in my lap, but it’s worth a try! Whatever way you decide to try, always have a steady hand. If she feels you’re hesitant she’ll rebel even more.

Good luck! Let us know how it’s going

Thanks for the advice, yeah I think that’s my problem, that I hesitate when I try to hold her and she knows it lol.

Most rabbits don’t like being held, so try not to take it personally When I first gave my buns panacur, they just licked it straight off of my hand (it’s quite thick so it stayed put when I splodged it on) That was a very easy 9 days! Second time I had to panacur them, I had to put it on a piece of dried chicory root (they love that stuff!)They were a bit fussier but still didn’t mind the taste. I’d try that and see if your bun takes it.

I never even thought of seeing if she likes it first or putting it on food for her to eat, thanks so much for that idea!

I’ll try it out tonight when I’m giving her the veggies, I might try it on a piece of banana

I mixed the panacur with a little banana or apple sauce, she *loved* getting it! ?

I tried putting it with banana she had a few bites and then hopped away, argh, is it safe to be left out on the bit of banana so I can she if she goes back to it and eats it later or is that unsafe? I’m unsure of what to try now

She just ate it, now I’m worried it was harmful, was only sitting for like 40 mins though?

Should be OK, but if you want to syringe feed, talk to bunny, stroke her and see if you can get the medicine in her whilst you are knelt down, without lifting her up, I can do this with Olly, he hates being lifted up, but I can check his paws, bottom and even his teeth, but ‘No pick up bunny’ its bunny rule.

I prefer to sit on mine. LOL It’s much easier, at least for me, to sit on my knees and trap them between my legs.
