Hey Blue Moon! If you use toilet paper that is rolled on the cardboard tubes, you can use those. Whenever a roll is finished, I throw it in a box and take some out every so often for Wick. Depending on your bun’s playfulness, you can take a couple and arrange them like bowling pins so they can knock it down, or you can cut them to be different heights, then throw a treat in one and let your buns find it. You can also stuff them with hay so your rabbits need to interact with them and roll them around to get some hay.

Wick doesn’t really play with anything unless I force him to run around with me, but there is one thing he’ll consistently interact with. He has a cardboard ring, which I think came as a part of packaging for a large electronic appliance. It’s very hard cardboard and it’s diameter is big enough that he can hop through it. He does not like it to be standing up (the position where he can walk through it). If he sees it propped up, he goes up to it and chucks it so it’s laying down flat. No idea why he does this, but that’s the extent of him playing.

Last night, I made some, one was a cardboard ball, another was a thin spiral and the last one was a thicker ring with the ends snipped to make little parts and pushed them out. Hope this helps!

Yep, the good old toilet-paper-roll-stuffed-with-hay standby. I’ve got a whole bagful of empty rolls saved up, and when Panda and Fernando come home this weekend each of them will receive one, full of nice fresh mixed hay, as a welcome-home gift! Another easy/inexpensive toy idea is like the toilet paper roll, on the grand scale, for a tunnel. Go down to Lowes or Home Depot and look for one of those concrete form tubes made out of plain cardboard (Sakrete brand, usually); they come in 8″ and 12″ diameter sizes so you can select whichever one best fits your bun’s size. They’re pretty long – 48 inches – so you may want to cut it down, maybe in half, to fit the play area and/or have a spare for when the bunny eventually chews it down to shreds. They can be had for less than $10.

Even used cardboard shipping/mailing boxes make great bunny toys, providing you remove yucky stuff like tape and glue. I have a double stack of boxes that would otherwise be thrown away that Panda and Fernando are going to spend a very long time chewing their way through!
