I took my bunny in to get spayed two days ago. She made it through the surgery just fine. Doesn’t seem to be any in any pain at her incision site. But she wouldn’t to eat on her own that day.The vet gave her some critical care at their office. They also sent me home with meloxicam for pain and critical care to keep giving her until she started eating on her own. She wasn’t eating at home so I continue to give her the critical care. She still didn’t seem to be in any pain just a little sleepy. She wanted to cuddle a lot. She still was not eating or drinking on her own this morning. So I brought her back into the vet. After an examination and x-rays they said that she was moving food through her system but very slowly and she had gas bubbles in her stomach. They said that that can be painful which could be why she wasn’t interested in eating. They upped her dose of pain medication and also gave her a medicine to get her system moving a little faster. They also gave her subcutaneous fluids while she was at the vet After spending another day at the vet today she came home and about half an hour after getting home she actually started eating a little bit of hay on her own. The vets said that she still had not passed any stool while she was with them today. I needed to still keep an eye on her. And if she wasn’t passing any stool by the morning that I’m supposed to bring her back. She seems to be acting like herself again. She is alert and seems to want to play. Still does not seem to be in any pain. This evening I went to give her her two medications at the vet prescribed. I picked her up and gave a quick peek to her incision site on her belly. And to my horror there was a strange bubble just above her incision site on her abdomen. It doesn’t seem to be associated with the incision at all. Her incision still seems to be normal. She’s not showing any pain or discomfort. The bubble seems to be just below the skin surface. It feels like it may be either fluid or air just below the skin. I’m not sure if it’s related to the fluids the vet gave her. Or if this is something much more serious. I’ve read other post where they talked about possible gas bubbles caused by infections from getting sub Q fluids. Has anyone had experience with this type of problem. I’m really trying not to freak out. And stay calm. I don’t want to jump to conclusions but I also don’t want to wait if this is indicative of a much more serious problem. Any insight?

I think you should call your vet. I don’t know what the bubble is, but it’s best to check with your vet. I think they’ll know right away.

Thank you for your reply.?… I did try calling several emegancy vets last night but they didn’t seem very knowledgeable. But Smudges vet opens in 10 min so I plan on calling right away… I did leave them a message last night. But the good news, Smudge still is behaving like her playful happy self…the Bubble seems to have decreased…. and her insicion still looks good… no swelling, redness, etc,..so hopefully I will have some answers soon!

So the vet says it was fluid from the subQ fluids she received yesterday…. the bubble is almost gone and there is still some loose skin in the area but the vet says it should completely be gone by tomorrow…they gave the injection near her back shoulder blades but the fluid pocket shifted… so glad it turned out to harmless… I was very worried for her after the GI stasis…but happy to report that Smudge is doing great!
