The new Calicivirus strain RHDV1 K5 is being released next week in almost 1000 locations: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-02-…us/8288610

Just wanted to remind people to make sure your rabbits vaccine is up to date. The Australian veterinary association now recommends vaccinating at 6 monthly intervals, rather than annually:  http://www.ava.com.au/rabbit-calicivirus

Thanks for the reminder Yes, a little bit scary, but at least some hope for vaccine protection this time, unlike RHDV2.

They started recommending off label 6 month vaccines with RHDV2 as well, but without anything to back it up, just as a “just in case”. At least in this instance, while their testing was poor and only for one month, they did show that the vaccine protects against K5 for a month. I suspect they’re encouraging 6 months because they don’t know how long beyond that it will cover.
