Good evening everyone! I’m heading off to the vet in about 30 minutes but I have a quick question. I noticed tonight that my bun Scout’s head is falling to the right as she lays on the floor. Its like a slow fall, almost like she can’t hold it up then she snaps it back upright but it starts to fall to the right again. Do you think this is the beginning of head tilt? An inner ear problem? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated! Thank you!

It’s certainly possible that it could be the beginning of a tilt due to E.C or an ear infection, however it just sounds to me like she’s been falling asleep, and when her head drops it wakes her up and she lifts it upright again. Hard to know without actually seeing it though of course

I agree, it sounds like she might be doing this in her sleep. My ruby-eye-white bun does this a bit. And my older lop boy nods his head downwards.
Hopefully the vet has been able to assess her by now.
If tilt, you might notice a subtle or rapid movement of her eyes (nystagmus), staggered balance, the head listing while stands or is in sitting posture.

Was she hiding away when lying down with the head listing?

Thanks Azerane and Jersey Girl! The vet seems to think that it is head tilt so she’s on 3 meds and critical care now. Hopefully that will take care of it! Glad I could get her in to the vet tonight! My other girl, Bella, had a horrible case of head tilt once where she could stand or sit. She kept rolling over. Took a couple months but she finally recovered and she was pretty much back to her normal self. Hopefully Scout has a similar recovery!

It certainly makes one extra cautious when youve seen it before, Im glad Bella recovered well. Sending {{{vibes}}} over for Scout! You having had her seen this early on will certainly help.
