Hey guys this is my first time posting here so hoping I can get some help!
My 8 week old house-bunny ( Netherland dwarf ) stays in her cage till I let her roam the house. At first I let her out in a small area because she’s a TERRITORIAL freak who poops over 30 droppings as she’s running and needs to do 1 pee straight when she’s out the cage then she stops and I can let her run the whole house.
The problem is in her cage. I have a hay rack on the side and then a litter box on the other side with a food bowl and a water bowl on one side and then the water bottle hanging the opposite (just because we don’t think she gets enough water from the bottle) The problem is she will literally dig her pellets out (the pellets have some smell of herbs with sunflower seeds & another yellow type.) but she likes it all because she eats it (planning on getting her just pellets without smell) though she will dig her pellets out and Pee behind her bowl and the pellets get soggy and not a nice smell. She does the same with her water bowl (just took it out to see how it goes) she’s also lately been digging her hay all over the place from the rack AND from her litter box. Her litter box currently contains news paper and hay over it as I haven’t had time to buy her the proper litter bedding. Since she has no bedding (used to be a blanket but she always chose to have no blanket and she’d pee on it) the whole floor would get all messy with pellets & hay & poop everywhere. I’m not sure what to do. I’ve had her for 2 weeks and the first 1.5 weeks she was always Peeing in her litter box & popping mostly in it too. ive changed around the litter box and bowls but she STILL goes to the bowls regardless where they are placed. My buns is a sweet heart but it’s this fault that makes me want to go crazy cleaning it everyday lol! I’m planing on de-sexing her when she’s old enough so I’m hoping that will stop it. I’ve been litter training her but she still doesn’t get it. Maybe she’s just too young still? Thanks in advance!

It would be best if u put the litter box where you out the hay rack as wherever you put hay the rabbit is more likely to pee and poop there.

As for bedding it would suffice efficiently to use just hay and newspaper, but if you don’t want her paws to be dirty with ink stains out a metal rack in the bottom of the litter box to seperate the bedding and hay.

It would also be good if you avoided pellets where it contains sunflower seeds as it is considered more of a treat item and be careful of it being inside the shell. Make sure to feed just the seed and not with the shell.

In the case, of her digging up her pellets. It could be just a habit she’s developed and you can maybe avoid her peeing on it by replacing the bowl.

Digging is also something that female rabbits tend to do a lot especially is left unspayed. So it would be best to get her spayed soon.
