A month ago I started letting my rex/lionhead into my bedroom where he hangs out during the night. Ever since, I can hear him grinding his teeth – louder then when he purrs when being pet. I took him to the vet and there was no implications as to what may be causing it. Teeth are fine as well. Do some bunnies just grind their teeth for no reason?

Is he doing anything else when you hear the grinding? Do you see him pressing his stomach into the floor or twisting and turning like he is trying to get comfortable? If so, he likely has gas or some kind of GI issues.

Did the vet anesthetize him and get a good look at his back teeth, or did he just examine the teeth that he could see? It’s very hard to get a good look at the back molars, where there may be high points, unless the rabbit is anesthetized.

When you hear this grinding again, you should observe your rabbit and see if there are any other clues as to what could be wrong. Is he eating and pooping well?

Yeah I’d keep digging. Are his poops smaller than normal? I’d keep looking for other signs. What you are describing wouldl have me worried too.

I agree. Does he do anything else when he’s doing it?

The vet looked in his mouth for a few minutes while he was awake and couldnt see anything that would cause grinding. When he does grind his teeth, he’s sitting in a comfortable position – no pressed tummy or painful posture. He eats and runs around while doing binkies. Poops are normal. The only thing I wish he did was drink more water.

Rookie grinds his teeth much louder than when purring too when he is sleeping. I’ve been watching him closely and I did notice that as soon as he relaxes into a deep sleep he will have loud grinds of his teeth but not continuously.

Leopold will grind his teeth when he is frustrated about something. It’s just one quick grind though, like he’s venting or something.
