I am currently using care fresh bedding in his litter box but it still smells extremely bad when he pees. Is there anything else I can use that will better contain the stink?

Yup, had the same problem! I’m now using a store brand version of Yestersay’s News cat litter with a bit of hay on top. It does a great job keeping the odor down and I think costs a little less.

I just use old newspaper. I rip it into big pieces and just layer it and throw some hay on top and it’s worked perfectly

Tay- how often do you change the paper?

I use newspaper too. I shed it in a paper shredder and then pour it in. Every day I use a cat litter scoop and scrape it out, deliver it to my compost pile, and fill it back up with shredded newspaper. Works great every week or so I fill the litter container with white vinegar and let it soak for a bit. All the nasty stuff comes right out. I keep a spray bottle of wbite vinegar and water and wipe their litter pans out every day when I swap them. It is not harmful to them and gets rid of any smell. It is a VERY good cleaner for rabbit messes!

I use wood pellet litter, mine’s a horse stall bedding brand. Works a treat, absorbs heaps and the lack of smell is awesome.

I use a corn-based cat litter. It is lightly scented and does a really good job of absorbing the smell of bunny messes, which sounds like is one of your main concerns. I put a thin layer in her litter pan and cover it up with a thick layer of hay. I put fresh hay on top each morning, until it’s full, and then the whole thing gets cleaned out (1-2 times per week, on average). I specifically use the Arm & Hammer Naturals litter (make sure it says corn-based). I tried other corn-based litters and my rabbit was eating the litter and it made her sick. For some reason this lightly scented brand keeps her from wanting to taste it. Good luck!
