I have a very large room that my two bunnies share. They are about five months old and are going to the vet in a few weeks to get fixed. Because Bear (the male) constantly chases Elle around (who wants nothing to do with his romantic advances), Elle is always exhausted, so I have a large pen I usually keep one in, and when I get home from work I rotate them. Let one out, put one in kinda deal. They seem fine with it and usually lay against the pen and cuddle through the fence. Well when it is Elle’s turn to have free reign of the whole room, she will constantly chew on the thick wooden gate that seperates their room from the living room. Its like listening to a horse crib on a fence! Its so loud and she does it all through the night. Her room is super big, at least 14×14 with toys and water and food and hay and blankies. I dont know why she does it. :/ all she does if I let her out, is go to my entry way and eat the baskets I put my shoes in for hours.

Rabbits have been known to mate through cage bars or fences, so be careful if they can actually make contact through the fence. You may need to have an extra barrier. It only takes a few seconds of contact to result in pregnancy.

There are products that you can apply to objects to keep rabbits from chewing on them, but most people report that they don’t work. Rabbits do love to chew on a lot of things, and baskets are a favorite, but you don’t want your things destroyed and you don’t want your rabbits chewing on materials that might be harmful. Many wood products or baskets might be coated with chemical finishes. Hopefully, she will calm down and not chew so much after she is spayed, but there is no guarantee about that.

Yes i was worried about the cage but whenever Bear gets close to her she runs away. Its veey obvious that she wants nothing to do with him. Lol thry will be fixed in a few weeks so Im not currently worried about it. Im monitoring them very closely though. I made sure the wood i made their gate with wasnt treated and the baskets are homemade organic grass baskets so thats probably why they are so yummy…. lol
