I’ve seen a lot of different people on several sites mention difficulties when bonding rexes.  From what I’ve seen it seems that sibling and very youthful bonds do well but once they have matured they seem to be much more headstrong during the process. My Velvet is a mini-rex, bonded with her brother, Vinny.  During bonding sessions with other bunnies Velvet is the first to instigate a fight.  This could overlap with my theory/joking that small bunnies have Napoleonic personalities… but I was curious about the personalities of your rexes and mini-rexes?  Do they seem to be a bit more pig-headed than other bunnies you have? Just trying to get a feel for other peoples’ experiences with rexes.

My Blue is a mini rex and demanded to be the boss, but his only demands are grooming and cuddles. As long as other bunnies groom him, are willing to be groomed by him (he likes things, including other bunnies, to be very clean), and are willing to be sat or leaned on, Blue wont act aggressively at all. When trio bonding, whenever our two youngest (a nethie and a mini dutch) would try to fight, Blue would lunge them into a corner and then sit on them. He really dislikes all fights and solves the problem with cuddles, lol

Hes never the first to start a fight, but if a fight actually breaks out, he is the one who causes the most damage, and then he sulks about it for a few days because he didnt actually mean to hurt anyone

Blue sounds like a lovable little handful!
My Tilly (not a rex) solves problems by bathing/licking things… if you won’t be licked she’ll box you, nip you or hump until the problem is solved; then go back to grooming. lol If only Velvet (mini-rex) would solve things the same way! She thinks the solution is to either hump into submission or fly at the offending bunny with teeth drawn! Her brother is less agressive… he likes to solve fights by running and hiding.

Pudge is a mini rex and her attitude is off the charts. She’s sassy, super demanding, and when she’s moody…you know it! I got her from a pet store that lacked proper socialization, so it took me quite a long time to form a friendship with her. That being said, the little adorable puff follows me everywhere when she’s out of her cage and adores being pet. It may have taken longer than other relationships, but Pudge and I are very close now.

I recently adopted another female rabbit, Rosie, with the end goal of having the two bonded. Rosie is a very calm rabbit. I had set up a date for Rosie and Pudge to meet, and Rosie’s first reaction was to get in the carrier and cuddle. Pudge’s first reaction to Rosie was to allow the cuddling, and then mount her. I had seen a lot of Rosie prior to adopting her, and I think she’ll be a good fit, even IF bonding two females is more difficult.

Pudge has been in a one-bun home for about 3.5 years; in her eyes, the world belongs to her. The girls are currently in separate x-pens, close enough to see and smell each other, but not to have any physical contact. They will be “pre-bonding” like this until sometime mid February or March of 2017, when I can get Rosie in to be spayed. Once she’s all healed, I will start with the actual bonding process. Pudge has accepted that Rosie now owns the space where her x-pen is, but Pudge does not like if Rosie gets too close to her cage. Pudge is stubborn, and I’m thinking this may be a trait that’s a little more dominant in the mini rex breed.

Guinness is a black otter rex and her nickname with us since day 1 (when she was only 3 months old) is: Smug Bunny or Smug Lord. She’s very friendly and affectionate but it’s definitely on her terms. She’ll hop up to you and give you a few licks but run away if you try giving her ‘too’ much affection (with occasional nip later, as if to go ‘why aren’t you still paying attention to me?’).

We were actually kinda worried when we were trying to bond her with Bleu, our dutch, because we didn’t give her a chance to pick out her husbun and we’d have to move him into her space if they bonded and we’d heard female buns are more territorial than guys. However, Guinness actually fell for Bleu at first sight and was constantly grooming him throughout the process while Bleu took a while to come around. We’re not sure if it’s because they shared a pen when they were younger or just because Guinness really, really wanted a friend but she pretty much wanted to be with him from the get go. That said, she still made it clear once they moved into her pen together on no uncertain terms she was the dominant bunny and was accepting Bleu into her space. She went from not humping him at all to simultaneous humping and grooming to get her point across on that front.

I’m just going to assume that rex bunnies are cuddly little t-rexes. lol
Thanks for sharing about your rexes and mini-rexes!

My Velvet is my most likely to cuddle and most likely to make a flying attack.
My Vinny is moody and can be stand-off-ish, but ultimately wants to cuddle.. so if sissy says it’s safe he wants in on it!
                  Both are black mini-rexes. ^_^

Just gonna throw out there that my first bunny, my beloved Stormy was a mini-rex. He was the smallest of any of my bunnies but had the hugest personality. He was also the most bonded to me and my husband. He gave kisses and would climb all over me. I miss him. Because of him, I have a huge fondness for Rexs.
