Okay, I am very new to this website, so I’d like to start off with Hey! This website is really helpful! And everyone is so nice!!!

But, concerning my bunny, she’s new. I bought her last week from a shop and the shop said she was about 6 weeks old, maybe? Anyway, I’ve done a large amount of research on how to care for a bunny and how most of them act after being brought to a new home. They need about 3 weeks to warm up to people, right?

Kookie, my little sassy bunny, did none of what everyone said! The second day after buying her she was already doing binkies and allowing me to pick her up. She even fell asleep while I was petting her! Is this normal? (Also, she likes to groom/bite my feet, only my feet, if this information helps.)

        Thank you so much!!

          Welcome to Binky Bunny.

I suspect her attitude is because she’s so young. Bunnies should really stay with their Moms until 8 weeks.

Is she doing well otherwise? Eating and pooping okay?

Thank you! And, oh my, she may be older than 8 weeks then because I’m almost positive the store clerk said she was old enough to leave her mom. And Kookie is eating and pooping really well, actually! She munches on hay and eats her pellets. And the amount of poopy pellets she has me clean everyday is insane!

Thank you for replying so quickly! I guess Kookie is just confident or something

              Kookie is a cute name!

I agree with LittlePuffyTail, it likely is because she is young. Maybe they were handled a lot in the store or by the owners also.

Everyb bunny is different. There isn’t really a hard and fast rule on how long it would take for them to become social. It’s good she is settling in so nicely.

A lot of times they are separated at 5-6 weeks when they are eating solid food and drinking water. Ideally they should stay with the mum for 8 weeks but really often, they are younger. If you weigh her weekly, you might be able to figure out her age depending on her growth rate and what her adult will be.

My first rabbit was from a store and was quite content to be held when I first got her. She was curious and seemed pretty confident. Don’t be surprised if you see some changes though when she reaches puberty! My girl took to hiding behind curtains and growling at me if I disturbed her. Lol.
Also don’t be surprised if you find out she is a he. It happens all the time.

It depends on the bunny. My amelia came from a breeder that handles all the buns in a new liter twice a day till they are three weeks and then handles them at least 4 times a day. My little girl has/had no issues with being picked up or held from the time I brought her home at 9 weeks old. SHes 14 weeks now and asks to be picked up, follows me everywhere and cuddles with me on the couch. She is very independent and even just visited with everyone on thanksgiving when we had 9 new people over!

I think it very much depends on the individual bunny! My sweet Buttercup was the more confident bun and allowed me to pet her, and pretty much do anything (apart from picking up!) fairly quickly whereas Peanut took a couple weeks more to get comfortable enough around me to let me do those things. Buttercup was also the first one to start flopping just about anywhere whereas Peanut, again took a little longer. Peanut is much more confident now but he’s still timid compared to Buttercup who just absolutely loves attention lol.
