Hi, I’ve been having daily bonding sessions with my rabbits for about 10 days now. During these sessions, I’ve noticed Nova really likes to groom Gizmo around the eye area, to where the skin around Gizmos eye is starting to look slightly red. While I love the grooming during bonding, I’m not sure what I can do to encourage her to groom somewhere other than the eye area? I worry if she continues grooming the same spot it’s just going to get more raw, and we’ll have a bigger problem on our hands. What do I do??

Can you put banana or apple juice into Gizmos fur on her head? Until Gizmo learns to tell her where to groom, youll have to encourage grooming elsewhere for her

Yes I can try that, thanks!

Do rabbits usually request where they want to be groomed?  I’m surprised seeing that the skin has been turning red that Gizmo doesn’t pull away, I can’t imagine it’s not bothering her

Even when we had our dates with Nova, she seemed to love grooming the eye area…don’t know why?

I dont think they request specfic places, just anywhere on their faces and sometimes ears will make them happy. My Bombur falls asleep grooming my Blue’s face sometimes, and Blue never leaves or nudges Bombur away even if hes been grooming in the same spot for over 30 minutes because he just loves the attention hes getting

Yeah I’m thinking if Nova was grooming anywhere else the area probably wouldn’t be so red, but I think because Nova is so focused on the eye area, it’s already a sensitive area, so I’m seeing it turn red around the edge of Gizmo’s eye.  I’m about to try their bonding session for the night, I’m going to try the juice trick you suggested.
