I’m not quite sure if my bunny is a netherland dwarf, I was told he is one but his ears look a bit long! Hes 11 weeks old right now, could someone tell me if he looks like a netherland dwarf?

Aw what a sweet little rabbit.
He does have the very round eyes that nethies have but not the classic face shape or ear length. He might be what is termed a “false dwarf”. This is when both parents are netherland dwarfs but the offspring got a non-dwarf gene from both parents. They are often larger then the breed standard and have longer ears. Usually they need a dwarf gene and non dwarf gene to look like the breed standard.

Be aware though, people often sell rabbits as dwarfs as they are more appealing to most. Pet stores do this too. These could just be any breed or mix breed of rabbit that is just a baby so they can get away with calling them dwarfs. Or perhaps they truly think they are.

If that’s him at 11 weeks, I think your rabbit will stay smallish in size. Love his eyebrow!

Thank you! Do you have an idea of how big he’ll grow to be or how much he’ll weigh? Also will he have the same temperament as a netherland dwarf since both his parents were?

A full Netherland dwarf looks like 2 spheres on top of eachother. A very small and round head, short ears and a round body. When I say short ears, I mean that even in adulthood their ears will be approximately 5 cm long. They will always look like babies, even in adulthood.

Your bun is undeniably cute, but doesn’t look to be a full NL dwarf.

Could be what Jersey said. He doesn’t have the same head shape… however, he’s still so cute!

I think he’ll stay fairly small. As for weight, maybe 2 – 3 pounds.

A true dwarf has a flat face making the head look very round He could be a false dwarf as mentioned, but he could also be a mixed breed. If he is a false, he should stay around 2 to 3lbs as BunnyFriends mentioned. If he is a mix, his weight could go up depending on what he is mixed with

He’s so cute!!! I agree with the others. He could very well be a Nethie, but a false dwarf like Jersey described. They are often sold as “pet quality” (instead of show quality). Or he could be a Nethie mix. Either way, I’d say he will probably stay on the small side.
