So Sampras has been on antibiotics now for 9 weeks -6 weeks baytril and 3 weeks sulfatrim. The sulfatrim was working really well, until around Wednesday. Then he started to get a bit sneezy. I figured it was due to him and Yumi still moulting and I figured the fur might have been causing irritation.

Then I found this grey goo.
It’s not like normal mucous discharge and smells really foul-that’s actually how I found it.
(I apologise in advance for posting pictures of this but dont say you werent warned!)
He actually did have them before, and I assumed it was a back log of gunk that was piling up in his tear ducts and nasal cavity. Once on the Sulfatrim this stopped, and I didn’t give it any more thought. But now it’s back and the thing that worries me is the fact there is blood in it, (which didnt happen before.)

I don’t know if Im overreacting, but I’d like to know if anyone knows what it is, has seen anything like it, or has even heard of something similar? Or if Im literally just panicking over rabbit snots.
(I added the image with keys to try and give you a size reference)

I expect that it’s been blocked up for a while and just finally came out. It is quite unusual to see it that thick, I bet he’s happy to have it out. Regarding the blood, it may not necessarily be something to be concerned about. Could be that excessive sneezing caused some bleeding, I know if I have a cold and am constantly blowing my nose, sometimes I get tiny little spots of blood.

Worth keeping and taking to the vet perhaps? I don’t know, wish I could shed some more insight, but it’s probably just thick snot that’s been caught up there for a while

Well, its a good thing he managed to get it out, even if it’s grossed you out. Has his sneezing improved since he did this? Maybe the increased sneezing this week was because he was trying to move this.

Has he ever had xrays done?

Re antibiotics, you may have to move onto injectables and doing some nebulised meds too. Or just nebulising saline to move any thick gunk out.

That looks like a snot plug that’s finally come out. The blood doesn’t seem abnormal given his poor abused mucous tissue. But do see the vet if his symptoms (sneezies and discharge) have picked up again. (((Sampras)))

Thanks guys! I’ll look into getting him to the vet on Monday. (Only emergency clinics are open atm) I’ll definitely ask about a nebuliser for him, but Im reluctant to get him injections-he had baytril injections and got sterile abscesses and now his back is covered in scar tissue lumps. My old vet talked about giving him xrays but was reluctant as to he’d need sedatives and he doesnt really react very well to them.

He seems in good enough form at the moment, even if he is a tad wheezy-he’s running around with his veggie box on his head.
