        Hi.

I have a 5 month old crossbreed lop called Lori, who is completely fantastic.

This morning, my partner accidentally left a tube of her toothpaste on the sofa (Sensodyne Repair & Protect).

A few minutes ago, I noticed Lori chewing on the corner of it.  She pretty much ripped the corner off and I could smell some mint on her breath. She didn’t eat much of the toothpaste, I think.

I’ve given her loads of fresh hay, which usually gets her on a munching spree. She’s in her litter box now, just eating away.

Should this be something to be concerned about?

The ingredients in the toothpaste are:

Glycerin, PEG-8, Hydrated Silica, Calcium Sodium Phosphosilcate (NOVAMIN), Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Methyl cocoyl Taurate, Aroma, Titanium Dioxide, Carbomer, Sodium Saccharin, Sodium Fluoride, Limonene. Contains Sodium Fluoride 0.315% w/w (1450 ppm fluoride).

If you don’t think she ate much, if any, I don’t think it will be a problem. That she is eating lots of hay is great. That will keep her gut working at optimum speed and hopefully help pass anything undesirable from her system.

I’m no chemist so I cannot really comment on the specific ingredients. I don’t suppose toothpaste has a poison control number on the tube, given that some of it is usually ingested?

Fluoride would be the most concerning ingredient. But if what she ate was minimal, then she’ll probably be okay. Just keep an eye and make sure she’s eating and keeping things moving.

Okay… I have to ask. Why was there a tube of toothpaste on the sofa? LOL
