So my rabbit is about 3 1/2 months old, when should I start feeding him veggies? And when should he have treats? I’ve heard 6 months I’ve heard not at all and I’ve heard 3 months. So when should I start introducing veggies to my rabbit? Please help!

            Hi!
I have a four month old bunny, and I’ve owned a 3 month old as well. For both of them, I’ve started feeding vegetables pretty early on, around 3-4 months. I researched the ideal age before adopting, but most websites didn’t give me any exact age, they all ranged somewhere from 3-6 months. I’d say start introducing vegetables and fruits now, just little by little and ur bun should be fine. For Joey, my four month old, I gave him one small cube of a certain type of vegetable once every two days in order to see if he had any problems with it. So far he is doing just fine . Start out with easy things to digest, such as bell peppers, lettuce (no iceberg), cucumber, zuchinis, dandelions, etc. Good luck, and if anything goes wrong or if you notice anything different in his behaviour, contact your vet

Not an  expert, but I’d assume as soon as they are weaned they’re good to go with veggies.  In the wild, that’s what they’d have to eat.  I think a natural food for them is grass.  So I’d think they can be fed veggies and a grass family hay right after weaning.  You need to read up on what veggies to feed them.  There are some veggies that they shouldn’t be fed even as adults.  Ours eat carrot tops, fennel tops, parsley, cilantro, dandelion leaves, romaine lettuce, bok choy.  For a grass hay, we use oat hay since we’re near a feed and grain store that sells to horse owners.

When we got our two Flemish rabbits, they were two months old and were being fed pellets.   We immediately started them on greens with no problem.

There’s many different opinions on this issue as you have found out, however it really depends on the individual rabbit, not their age. Any time a veggie is introduced it should be done slowly, whether it’s introduced at 8 weeks or 6 months. Kits that are with their mother who is also eating greens have the benefits from their mother’s milk and nibbling on the greens fed to mum. However, a kit that is raised by a doe fed only hay and pellets is not going to have all the suitable gut flora to be able to easily digest veggies early on and it may only be safe to introduce greens to them several months later. Add on to that that some rabbits are simply more sensitive than others. So you can certainly try now, start with only one type, something simple like romaine lettuce or cilantro and start with only a very tiny piece and slowly increase the size of the piece fed once a day if you don’t see any upsets. If you’re noticing it’s not going well and your bunny is getting gas, or having mushy poop, halt the introduction and wait a month before trying again.
