Ok so I have a lionhead bunny named Beatrice who is almost a year old and she chins everything She can reach …. well that lately includes her water bottle spout every time she drinks …..I notice her in the past week that she has some matted fur under her chin….and she really don’t like me trying to get to the spot either…. It’s way up under her chin… She’s my first bunny who has full rein of house I also have Daffnie who is a 8 yr old jack Russell / beagle mix but of course The bunny is the boss… But her poor chin i don’t know what to do about keeping it dry if she keeps chinning the water bottle spout… And she is still very fluffy trying to get a pic under her chin is hopeless she don’t like me touching let alone holding for a pic

It is possible that the scent glands under Beatrice’s chin are sensitized in some way or perhaps itchy, in which case you might want to consider making a bunny burrito (where you gently wrap her in a towel or blanket – lots of youtube vids showing how) to look at her chin and detrrmine if a cleaning with a washcloth and some warm water, or a trip to the vet is in order.

Bunnies generally drink better from a water dish (you could still keep the bottle as a secondary water source. A heavy ceramic dish is best since buns throw things around for fun.) Dishes allow buns to drink the way they do in the wild: dipping head toward the water and “sipping”.

Ok well I was able to get some pics under her chin…. Don’t know how well they came out once uploaded … The last pics how’s how fluffy she is I don’t know if a water bowl would work or is she would get more wet trying to drink out of it

the bald spot under chin is from her chinning her water bottle spout and the fur getting wet then matting……( she does not like it when mommy toushes her shin) i had to borrito wrap her and even then she was trying to move her chin away…. i tried very carefully to work the matted fur out( with my fingers) and it was just coming out in little tuffts … the skins looks pink ..but so does the rest of her under the fur ..around her mouth the skin is pink and she has a spot behind her head right on her neck ( where head and body meet) that it thin in fur but i hear that is normal her skin there is pink as well….it dosent look or smell bad ….. i just wish she would stop chinning the watter bottle and getting wet chin….

            trying to upload

I have two Lionheads and have never had a problem with water bowls-they seem to be able to manage their fluff.
It could be from having a wet chin, simple molting, or something else. What I would do is try the water bowls out for a few days to see if it helps any. If the area seems to get worse, I would ring the vet to see what they think. The skin doesn’t seem dry/flaky at all, correct? I can’t tell in the pictures.

No dry and flaky skin looks healthy
I did raise her water bottle up a little higher and dried her chin really well….. Shes not chinning it as much now that its higher and her chin seems dry… Maybe that was her way of telling me to higher her bottle
