So today when I got home and let Bramble out she started zooming. She zoomed right in front of me as I was walking and i kicked her. It was quite hard and in her underbelly. She let out a little squeal. I feel horrible but she seems OK.

This happens more often than it should because she loves to run circles around our feet! We try just to shuffle our feet around the house  but I’d just got home from work and forgot I couldn’t walk like a normal human around Bramble! Is there any way I can teach her not to get close to our feet? Also, are there any tell tale signs of internal injury that we should look for just in case this happens again? I’m so scared she will get seriously hurt because of our big human clumsiness.

Feeling super guilty but she seems happy enough and is eating well. Thanks in advance!

I think if she’s happy looking and eating well, she is fine because bunnies just sit in the corner and grind their teeth and refuse to eat if they are in pain.
Just watch out for the signs of pain like grinding teeth, looking sad, lethargy, refusing to eat, etc.

I’ve accidentally kicked my bunnies unfortunately a couple times too because they are just SO NOSY sometimes hahaha
I’m walking or standing around and they like to walk in between my legs or sit right at my blind spot. then BAM I accidentally kick them. I feel terrible but they are usually fine, just gives me attitude lol

Bandit suffered an internal injury. Straight away I could tell something wasn’t right. He still hopped around, but it was very restless, he couldn’t settle and would try to move away from physical contact. He tried to sit/lay down and belly press like you see with stasis but a moment sitting and he would get up again, turn in a circle or hop around before trying to settle again. He refused all food and treats. It was immediately obvious to me that he was distressed and in pain. He didn’t squeal or anything when he got hurt, so it’s really a matter of watching behaviour. We were at the vets within about 45 minutes.

Do whatever you can to avoid the risk of these sort of injuries. In most cases accidentally kicking while walking is probably just going to result in a sore/bruised bunny for a few days.

Thanks for sharing, Azerane. It really is helpful to know what to look for. I’m very sorry for your loss.

You’re welcome It’s not something I ever considered as a possibility before it happened so I like to share the story in case it helps at least one other rabbit. That’s not to say that every rabbit will show the same symptoms, but if it even helps a little.

                Thanks.
