Long story short…over head light in winnies room doesnt work. She had a lamp that she hasnt touched once in months thw cord was taped to the wall. It was out of the way. I left the room for 5 mins. She chews the cord..i go in there. I smell burnt fur. I check her mouth. Her whiskers are singed, it looked like it was alittle green. I picked her up and checked her mouth, it didnt seem to bad really, the outside on her upper lip looked skinned? Just a small spot..no blood. I lifted her lip, and she has a blister!!!! :,( i couldnt be more upset right now in my whole life. Im calling the vet asap as soon as i wake up. No emergency vets right now. I gave her a big piece of roman lettuce and she ate it. She ate some hay too. Im hoping shes eating by tomorrow. If not trip to the vets. Any advice? Pleasee! I am so so scared. I cant believe this happened. Im like queen of bunny proofing. This is my baby:,(

          Poor (((Winnie)))

Bunnies are expert at finding that one tiny weakness in bunny-proofing. Have you removed the lamp, as the cabling itself could well be damaged, and unsafe to use. That she is still eating is a good sign, though a trip to the vets asap is wise, as you don’t want any infection in her mouth or lip. Hopefully Winnie will make a swift recovery. Healing vibes for her xxx

I think you’re pretty much doing what you can do right now. Wet greens, like freshly rinsed romaine could be soothing. The fact that she’s willing to eat is of course great. You can’t put ointment inside the mouth obviously, so you’ll just have to keep an eye on the blister. You can clean the small wound on the lip with saline, human eye-wash is good.
Your vet might want to give her antibiotics as a precaution, but hopefully she won’t need it.

This is so typical of buns! They leave stuff alone for years and then one day they just go for it, like “hey, here’s a possibility to bunstruct that I hadn’t noticed before, silly me!”

As GJ says, unplug the lamp, if you haven’t, there’s a fire-hazard.

I completely removed the lamp from her room, and am gonna get a tiny desk lamp, one she cant get ahold of. I feel so bad for her. She ate some more lettuce this morning that had water on it. I tried giving her a piece of banana she wouldnt take it. Her little bunny mouth i really hope she will be okay. Im not to worried about the little area of raw skin im more worried about the blister that i seen.. I couldnt tell if it was her lip or tongue. Im assuming if it were her tongue she would have trouble breathing and eating. She ate her lettuce fine. I believe she ate some pellets last night as well. I just cant believe this happened. I feel like a terrible bun mom. I had it out of the way and she hasnt touch this lamp once!! At all!!! I think she was just being sassy cause i keep the lamp behind the door and she likes to screw around behind tthe door but i had blocked it and she got all sassy and decided to eat the lamp cord she has never touched before and it was seriously like within 5 mins of time. Im so sad for her right now. I wonder if someone else has had this problem

There was someone here not too long ago whose bun had done the same thing and burned it’s mouth. It just has to be very common since buns will be buns.
If she’s eating lettuce and pellets, it’s more likely not the tongue that has the blister, they move the food around in their mouth with their tongue. Sores in the mouth generally heal well and quickly.

I’m sorry that happened, I know I would be worried too! But as Bam said, their mouths do heal quickly, just like ours.

I honestly think that lots of buns must burn their mouths while chomping through cords and their humans just don’t notice any injury, because almost all rabbit owners I talk to have had their bunnies eat at least one cord. My husband left his office door open yesterday and Lukie got in- bit through a lamp cord and a mouse wire. He has been fine, eating everything- now I’m tempted to look at his mouth but I think I’ll leave well enough alone! My other male bunny was also famous for eating cords- never suffered any obvious effects. I DO enclose cords and bunnyproof, but they still manage to occasionally get into things they shouldn’t. I’m bunnyproofing hubby’s office now just in case!
