I am proud owner of four buns, two bucks and two does.

My two does recently got into a fight, resulting in deep cut near anus region of my eldest doe. I brought her to an emergency vet, which immediately sutured her wound for fear of infection.

Fully recovered, I brought her to my regular vet for regular check-up. My regular vet informed me that one of gland hole is gone. My regular vet insisted that it’s sweat gland hole and my doe should be okay, since there is another access.

After researching the internet,, I found out that there is no sweat gland but only scent glands near the anus region. Now, losing faith in both my vet and currently looking for another vet for second opinion, I come to ask if there’s anyone with similar experience or knowledge regarding scent glands, whether there is long term health risk to leaving it be or a surgery is needed.

        Thank you.

Well I’m taking a rabbit in tomorrow be fix up after a similar incident. Though her wound is closer to her leg then the genital mound. I’ll ask my vet about what would happen if the scent gland was closed up. They’re not super rabbit savvy but do see a lot of rabbits. I don’t suppose it would be an issue if that gland becomes inactive… Hopefully you’re able to get opinion of another rabbit-savvy vet.

Thank you. She is doing well!

I’m sorry to say I never even had a chance to ask! When I collected her, the vet had already gone for the day.

I will keep looking around online for a tidbit of info though..
