Hi guys! I have two mini lop bunnies and I wanted to ask some opinions about cages..
Do you think it is better to have a shorter (length wise) double story cage or a longer single story cage for 2 buns? I have a double story one at the moment and I find the ramp to be a massive space waster and struggle to put their things where they would like them (food, litter tray etc). Please note they spend most of their day with their cage attached to a large puppy pen to play in, their cage is there ‘home base’ . Please let me know your opinions and what cage (to buy) you think is best!

        Kind regards!

Longer is better than taller, especially if when you have a double story cage, the levels are quite short. The space to hope multiple times along a length is more beneficial than just going up to another small level. And as you have said yourself, ramps waste quite a lot of space. My cage is double story, but it’s also 1.8m (5ft 11) long. If you have to room to expand lengthways then go for it.

You could buy a nice long cage, you can also buy NIC style grids to make a cage yourself. Examples: https://www.google.com.au/search?q=nic+rabbit+cage&espv=2&biw=1600&bih=775&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjiopzBpKPMAhVHFZQKHUZcCAQQ_AUIBigB
That way you can custom build it to whatever size you have space for and if you wanted to, down the track you could also add a second level on top of the longer length giving even more space. You can even buy another puppy play pen and build a cage from the panels of that, using some panels for the roof.

My cage is the biggest off-the-shelf from Petsmart with an Xpen attached to it for more run space. Like Azerane said, NIC cube grids are great if you want to expand. I know of people who buy large dog crates off Ebay and convert them into great cages for their rabbits. I’ve read that rabbits generally like two-story cages as a place to relax and “keep watch” over their territory.

Thanks for your advice guys! In saying all that, what do you think are the best quality/size for money cages around?
