Here is the quick back story:

Lunas bottom incisors are messed up and have been. I got her back teeth an top incisors ground down to try to fix these issues. But one of her bottom icisors is broken off completely and Hasnt grown back so it seems as though it is dead for real. And then the other bottom isicor…. well, it’s trying to grow back to being normal as it broke off too but isn’t dead. I just looked at it and half of the tooth is a discolored dark blood rusty red. And I believe the gum is inflamed around it.

This is clearly an infection right?

Can they fix this with our extracting the tooth?

She has an appt Monday to get spayed but looks like that won’t happen now. As she needs to get in within the next few days for this tooth infection.

I’m sorry to hear this, lunarose. I do think the remaining lower incisor will need to be pulled, and I think she needs antibiotics and perhaps an anti inflammatory painkiller for the infection and inflammation. I don’t think it’s safe to have her spayed when she has an infection in her mouth. She needs to see a vet, poor little darling. Is she eating and drinking?

            Thank you bam.

You are right. It’s just really stressful because things were going so well. But yes I am not getting her spayed since it would be a bad idea to do so with the infection. Just sucks for the reason I said. But it’s okay. Things will be fine and hopefully calm back down again health wise for her.

I just don’t know what I am gonna do. I have money for her to get seen tomorrow or Saturday and since I have to work I am gonna ask my friend to bring her. I am calling the vet in the morning and then gonna call this other vet to talk to this one guy in town who specializes in bunny teeth. This way I won’t have to travel to wsu to the vet teaching school this time again, unless he is super expensive, way more than the vet teaching school. But at wsu an extraction is 100 dollars per tooth…. per hour. :/ I have just enough money to get her into the vet and to get her on an antibiotic and anti inflammatory/pain med. But not enough for the extractions. I get paid next Friday and on that Friday I will only have 200 dollars to spare until I get paid again on the 15th or so and on the 15th is when I will have enough money to get the extractions and stuff.

I was thinking maybe if need be, I could set up one of those youcaring or gofundme accounts but I wouldn’t even know what to say and I don’t want people judging me or thinking I am a bad pet owner.

I have donated to my friends on those pages when they have recused and are helping buns but their situations were different and they rescued them from horrible situations. And I hate asking for money in any way. But I am so worried right now.

            I will figure something out.

Sorry hope I am not a bad pet owner. :/

And yes she is still eating and drinking.

But she does have issues eating certain hard things.

I know for sure her teeth were good a week and a half ago. A week and a half ago I took her in to get her incisors ground down because they were long and she needs it every three weeks because since she doesn’t have bottom incisors she isn’t able to properly grind down the top. But he checked her teeth then and they were fine and didn’t have the decay they do now. I looked at it again and it’s most of the tooth that has the decay color to it.
But anyway I noticed yesterday when I gave her bok choy that it’s hard for her to eat it. She will try to eat it but she cannot really chew on the hard munchy stem, so she will try and nibble on the leafy part. And then with bananas, she hass to have me squish them or she won’t eat it whole. Same with strawberries. She cannot eat ‘whole’ pieces of anything. But I don’t think it’s cause of the decay, but because of her lacking lower incisors. Or maybe her bottom gums hurt. When I took her in a week and a half ago he said her gums were sensitive so he put her on pain meds but I have already finished up the dose a couple days ago.

I took her temp and it was around 103.3 ‘which isn’t a temp and she was stressed when I was taking it any way because she hates having it taken. But she has been seeming really warm lately so I thought she had a fever.

Her nose has also been runnier than normal and she has also has dandruff issues. And hair loss on her top back but she is molting, well was more so before. But the dandruff was only in a couple places and it’s basically gone. But I thought it had to do with the molting so I was just keeping an eye on it.

It does sound rather strange, the discoloration. And that it happened so fast =( I don’t know if it means the tooth is dead or if it’s some sort of enamel decay (caries can cause that but hardly in 10 days). I’ll have to look into it some more. Try to keep her as comfy as possible, but I of course know you will do that. You can perhaps mash her banana with some crushed pellets and a little water just so she gets all the nutrients she needs in her, if she can’t eat properly I mean.

If you start a Gofundme-account, you can’t advertise it here on the forums, it’s not allowed under our forum-rules. I do think you could start one, because Luna’s story is very touching. She really has had some issues but you’ve dealt with them admirably. You never come off as a bad pet owner. Quite the opposite!

Btw, it’s so odd, last night right before I went to sleep I came to think of you and Luna, wondering how you were doing. I’m sorry to hear she’s not doing so great, but I’m convinced you’ll find a way to solve this problem too. Sending many hugs to both of you.

Ask the vet if they have a payment plan option or if they can give a small discount to you. Sometimes if you explain your situation both human doctors and vets listen and are willing to help. Maybe write them a letter. I’ve done that before for my own surgery on my knee and the doctors forgave some of the charges. Your vet may do the same, or allow you to pay next week, but let Luna get treatment now. They want what’s best for your bunny too. I hope Luna gets better soon!

A crack in the tooth could cause the discoloration since blood can seep through the crack. Since the tooth was broken before and is now growing out, it is possible that it cracked below where it originally broke off. The gums could be inflamed for a variety of reasons, but I would worry that it is infected down there.

Thank you guys. Sorry for the late reply.

Thank you bam. Don’t worry, I would never advertise it on here. I was just asking because I have never done one of those pages and I would feel so guilty putting up one. And wasn’t sure if it would be wrong of me to. At first I was worried I wasn’t suppose to even talk about a gofundme account but then since I want advertising one,.I thought it was okay. Hopefully it is. But yeah I would never do that. I hope I didn’t make you feel like that.

And thank you, you are so sweet!

                    And thank you guys.

I have no idea what is wrong…. it’s weird. I tried to take a picture but it’s so difficult with my phone and trying to hold her still.

The vet at wsu wrote me and told me that she needs to be brought in and if I didn’t bring her in down there til later that she would.need to be taken to the local vet and to be started on antibiotics and be put on meds immediately.

My friend is taking me to bring her down to wsu Monday and then they are starting her on meds immediately. They know my budget so they are gonna extract her bottom teeth…. And depending, she May be able to fit a spay into my budget and do a spay while she is under. But looks like I won’t be able to afford to do that as the extractions and spay could be 400-500.

Then I will need to take her back in a couple months and have her top teeth and two peg teeth removed. It’s 100 dollars per tooth per hour there… so basically 400+ and most likely it would be more becAuse it’s hard to do extractions on ‘good’ teeth. And then I would need to pay for her boarding at the vet. Because I don’t have a license atm, so my friend would have to pick her up on the weekend which means she would be there for five days. Anyway, that is so much money.

I could be able to afford it eventually but even then, all my money goes to her and I cannot use it to take care of other things. Which is fine, Luna comes first and always will. She comes before me. She is my child and will never be denied care.

But it would be nice to put up a donation page but I wouldn’t know what to say. And I feel guilty. I wouldn’t even know how to ask for donations. Just be like ‘i am struggling financially and really could use help.’ Idk, I would post the bills and all that. But anyway sorry gives me anxiety.

Hopefully this makes sense. And sorry if I forgot to answer anything or left anything out. I am so stressed, I cannot think

                      UPDATE:

Just took Luna to WSU and she is staying there til Saturday. The doctor took a look at her teeth and there is pus coming out from under her bottom incisor. So yes it’s infected. But last night when I looked at her teeth all that discoloration was gone… So it has actually just been dried blood. Either the sharp bottom tooth was piercing into skin or what it sounds like is that the blood is coming from the gum as it’s infected.
They are removing it and then spaying her. And then in a couple months the plan is to go back so she can remove the top incisors.

Thank you for the update. She’s in the hands of vet med experts now, so great you caught this so soon.

Sending her tons of vibes ((((((Luna))))))

                        And vibes for you too.

Poor thing, I was hoping it wasn’t too bad but it sounds like it is. At least you caught it and the vet thinks they can remove it with no problems. Thanks for the update!

Thank you very much you two!!

Hope both you and your buns (and other babies if you have any) had a greAt Easter!!!!

I will post the update on her on how she is doing on Wednesday.
Her procedure is either tomorrow or Wednesday.

They said her bottom tooth is very loose and will be easy to remove. If I alreAdy said that then I apologize for repeating myself.

It sucks, when I got back from dropping her off there today, I came and took a nap and then woke up and automatically thought I was gonna go cuddle with her and then realized that nope I cannot, as she isn’t here. miss her. She will be gone til.Saturday since I don’t have a car and my friend who took me doesn’t have another day off til Saturday so she will be staying there til then. Which is okay. There will be someone watching her 24/7 since she is at the vet teaching school at the college.

                            Miss her though

Of course you miss her. But at least you know she’s recieving the best medical care now. We’ll be very happy for updates. I hope you had a reasonably good Easter all things considered.

Sorry I never updated. I am terrible with remembering to do so.

Luna had allllllll her incisors removed. The top ones free of charge. And I applied to a good sanitation fund they had and got 200 dollars towards my bill. So only spent 200 for her visit, antibiotics, the spay, her three incisors removed and the two peg teeth removed and then boarding fee.

She is doing amazing and is so much better.

Now my next step is adopting another bunny for her within the next two months if possible because I can tell she wants a bunny companion.
