My Netherland Dwarf has just reached 4 months old, but in the last few days she has been crazy. We keep her in a portable X-Pen/Cage attached at night so she can run around while we sleep. But she’s started to chew through it and bite the bars of her cage. I purchased a bigger metal X-pen so she’ll have more room to run around and wont be able to chew through this one, but that wont be coming for a week or 2.
But i was also wondering if spaying her will help reduce her Destruction? Or if this is just how they all are at this age?

Also, when i try to move her from biting the cage she makes a little grunting/honking sound? Is that also normal for this age?

        Thanks

Sounds like she’s reaching maturity. spaying might able to help with aggressive, though not guaranteed.
She also might be just bored.

She was probably grunting because she is getting annoyed and telling you to back off.

Spaying should help to calm her down and make her less destructive, but some rabbits are more active and destructive than others, so as skyblue said, there is no guarantee. The honking sound can be due to sexual maturity. Some rabbits are more vocal than others, and can make grunting or growling sounds even if they are spayed. I have a rabbit like that. The most important reason to spay a rabbit is to prevent uterine cancer, which can be very common.

Definitely spay your bunny. The chance of tumor is very high in female rabbits I think it is about 80%. So spaying will save you tumor removal/surgery money as she ages (my friend spent more than $500 on a tumor removal and that was AFTER a special discount). If she does get a tumor at an older age surgery will be risky because of her age and also her tiny size.

It’s likely the size of your x-pen isn’t too small, my female dwarf does the same thing. Her pen isn’t too small I just think she prefers to be out or she likes the taste of the metal. I’m not sure but I try to buy her many toys to keep her occupied. I get toys from the binkybunny store, mine really likes the willow wreathe, hay mat, rye twist, and willow basket. She’ll usually spend less time chewing at bars and instead chew on either the toys or the mat. Just try different toys and see which ones your rabbit likes.
